When Mohammad (Tom) Hosseinpour arrived in Newfoundland in December 2019, he was beginning a brand-new chapter far from home, family and everything familiar.
Now, he’s graduating from Memorial University’s School of Pharmacy with a doctor of pharmacy degree. 🎓
Originally from Iran, Tom navigated Snowmageddon, the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges of studying abroad while being separated from loved ones. Along the way, he found friendship, community and a place that felt like home.
“When I looked at the scenery of St. John’s and Newfoundland in general, something clicked. It didn’t just feel like a place to study. It felt like a place I could embark on my adventures and build a new life.”
Tom plans to remain in St. John’s to practise pharmacy and is encouraging other students to keep going, even through difficult moments.
“The moment you feel like giving up, there will be rays of hope.”
