🍂 Thanksgiving Dinner Doesn’t Have to Come With Guilt! 🦃

Turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie… sound familiar? 😋

If you’re working toward your weight management goals, you might already be wondering how you’re going to navigate Thanksgiving dinner.

Here’s our advice: Enjoy it!

❤️ Eat the foods you love.

❤️ Slow down and savour your meal.

❤️ Include protein and vegetables, but don’t feel you have to skip your favourites.

❤️ Listen to your hunger and fullness cues.

❤️ Have dessert if you want it — without guilt.

One Thanksgiving dinner won’t undo weeks of progress, just as one salad won’t create lasting weight loss.

It’s what you do consistently over time that matters, not what you eat on one special occasion.

And please, don’t skip meals all day to “save calories” or feel you need to exercise extra the next day to make up for what you ate.

At LBMA & Wellness, we believe successful weight management means learning to enjoy food, celebrations, and everyday life while building healthier habits.

🍁 This Thanksgiving, make memories — not food rules.

Happy Thanksgiving from LBMA & Wellness! 🧡

You don’t have to give up carbs to lose weight. 🍞🥔

Potatoes, oats, fruit and whole-grain bread can all fit into a balanced eating plan. Many provide fibre and nutrients your body needs.

Think about portions, include protein, and choose higher-fibre options more often. There’s room for foods you enjoy.

One choice doesn’t undo your progress. 💛

Have you ever eaten something you hadn’t planned to and thought, “Well, I’ve blown it now”?

That’s all-or-nothing thinking. It can turn one moment into a whole day of feeling discouraged.

Try replacing “I’ve ruined today” with:
“That was one choice. I can still take care of myself today.”

Your next step doesn’t need to be punishment, skipping a meal, or starting over Monday. It might simply be having your next regular meal and moving on.

You can reflect with curiosity: Was I hungry? Had I gone too long without eating? Was I stressed or looking for comfort?

The answer gives you information—not a reason to criticize yourself.

You don’t need a perfect day to make progress.

Give yourself something to DO. 🤍

“Don’t snack at night” tells you what to avoid—but it doesn’t give you a plan.

A “do” goal gives you a clear next step:
✔️ I’ll plan an afternoon snack.
✔️ I’ll sit down for three structured meals.
✔️ I’ll take a 10-minute walk after supper.

Choose one small action that fits your life, and give yourself room to practise it. You don’t need a perfect week to make progress.

And if you’re hungry at night, it’s okay to eat. The goal is to build supportive habits, not more food rules.

What’s one “don’t” goal you could turn into a “do” goal this week?

💧 Hydration is part of your weight management plan, too.

When life gets busy, it’s easy to reach the end of the day and realize you’ve barely had anything to drink. You don’t need to chase a perfect number or carry a giant water bottle everywhere. Start with a habit that fits your day:

• Have a glass of water with breakfast.
• Keep water nearby while you work or travel.
• Add fruit or cucumber if you enjoy the flavour.
• Have a drink with meals and check in with your thirst throughout the day.

Water is a great everyday choice. If you’re replacing sugary drinks with water, that’s one small change that can support your overall health. (canada.ca, canada.ca)

At LBMA & Wellness, we focus on practical habits you can keep—not perfection. What helps you remember to drink water during a busy day?

You have a moment when you think, “I’ve failed.”

Maybe you ate more than you planned. Maybe you missed a walk, had a difficult week, or stepped on the scale and didn’t see the number you hoped for.

What do you do next?

Take a breath. You don’t need to skip your next meal or “make up for it” with exercise. Have your next meal as usual, and ask yourself what you needed in that moment. Were you hungry, tired, stressed, or simply enjoying food?

One moment doesn’t undo your progress. It gives us information we can use to make your plan work better for your real life.

That’s how we approach weight management at LBMA & Wellness: with support, curiosity, and adjustments along the way.

No judgment. No quick fixes. No one-size-fits-all. 🤍

Why does sleep matter for weight and health? 🌙

Sleep is more than a chance to rest. It supports your mood, concentration, heart health and the way your body manages appetite.

When you’re short on sleep, you may feel hungrier, find yourself eating later in the day, or have less energy for the activities that help you feel well. That can make weight management harder. It doesn’t mean poor sleep is the only reason someone struggles with weight.

One place to start: Try keeping your wake-up time consistent for the next week, even on weekends. For adults aged 18–64, the general goal is 7–9 hours of sleep a night.

If you regularly wake unrefreshed, snore loudly, or struggle to stay awake during the day, bring it up with a health care professional. Sleep difficulties deserve attention, too.

No judgment. No quick fixes. No one-size-fits-all.

🥚 **Simple Ways to Get More Protein**

Protein can help support muscle, strength, recovery and fullness—especially during weight loss. But getting enough doesn’t have to mean relying on protein shakes or eating enormous portions of meat.

Try these practical tips:

✅ Include a source of protein at every meal
✅ Start your meal with the protein portion
✅ Add Greek yogurt or skyr to breakfast or snacks
✅ Keep boiled eggs, tuna, chicken or cheese ready for busy days
✅ Add beans, lentils or chickpeas to soups, salads and casseroles
✅ Choose higher-protein snacks instead of waiting until supper to catch up
✅ Divide protein throughout the day—your body can use it more effectively this way

**Easy protein options:**

• Eggs
• Greek yogurt or skyr
• Chicken, turkey, fish or lean meat
• Tuna or salmon
• Beans, lentils and chickpeas
• Tofu or edamame
• Cheese or milk
• Nuts and seeds

You do not need to eat perfectly. Start by adding one reliable protein choice to the meal where you usually get the least.

Individual protein needs vary based on health, age, activity level and medical conditions. If you have kidney disease or have been advised to limit protein, speak with your healthcare provider before increasing your intake.

**What is your easiest go-to protein?**

Physical Activity Tip: Start Smaller Than You Think

You do not need to complete a long or intense workout for movement to benefit your health.

Try adding a 5–10 minute movement break to your day:

• Walk around your home or workplace
• March gently in place
• Complete a few chair-based exercises
• Stretch while watching television
• Take a short walk after a meal

Short periods of movement can improve circulation, mobility, mood and blood-sugar regulation. They can also help build strength and endurance over time.

Choose movement that feels safe and manageable for your body. If five minutes is what you can do today, then five minutes counts.

Consistency matters more than intensity.

⚖️ Why does weight loss sometimes slow down—even when you’re doing everything “right”?

Weight loss is rarely a straight line.

As body weight decreases, the body may respond by:

• Using fewer calories for everyday functions
• Increasing hunger and food thoughts
• Becoming more efficient during physical activity
• Holding additional fluid because of stress, sleep changes, hormones, sodium or exercise
• Defending against further weight loss through biological adaptations

This means a slower week—or even several weeks without a change on the scale—does not automatically mean that your plan has stopped working.

A plateau is a signal to reassess:

✓ Hunger, fullness and food noise
✓ Protein, fibre and overall nutrition
✓ Sleep and stress
✓ Physical activity and strength training
✓ Medications and medical conditions
✓ Changes in waist circumference, strength and body composition

Sometimes the plan needs adjusting. Sometimes your body simply needs time.

Obesity is a complex, chronic disease—not a lack of effort or willpower. Progress should be measured by more than the number on the scale.

No judgment. No quick fixes. No one-size-fits-all.
