If fat loss is your goal then you should prioritize lifting weights. 💪🏻

Here are 5 reasons why strength training beats cardio for fat loss:

1. More calories burned at rest. Muscle has a thermogenic effect on the body and boosts your metabolism, so you’re burning calories even when you’re not working out.

2. Helps to preserve lean muscle mass while in a caloric deficit. When you are in a caloric deficit and only do cardio, you risk losing muscle. Strength training helps you keep that muscle.

3. Stronger in real life. Fat loss is great. But being strong, capable, and injury-resistant? Even better. 🙌🏻

4. Improves body composition. You might not lose weight as fast on the scale, but you’ll look leaner, and more defined.

5. Better hormone response. Strength training supports fat-loss-friendly hormones and can help reduce stress-related fat storage.

I am not saying to neglect cardio. Our heart and lungs are muscles after all and cardio is an effective way to train them. But it is common for people to think that cardio is the best way to lose body fat when in reality, lifting weights can be far more beneficial. 🩷

2026 consistently challenge is happening on January 12th! Six weeks of being consistent, setting yourself up with habits that last the rest of the year, goal setting, nutrition guidance, workout plans, community, motivation and more. 🩷 💪🏻

Last January our challenge participants lost a total of 96.6lbs of body fat, and gained a total of 38.4lbs of muscle mass. They also learned healthy habits and tools to help them on their health and fitness journeys. We are so excited to see what this year’s challenge brings.
