virtual birth support

*

This unique package offering is for families seeking experienced support whether a planned home or hospital birth. Wanting access to support earlier in their process to help them achieve their goals without having someone in their space. Calls, text and video chats available throughout your process to build confidence, encouragement, gather information, talk it through, get tips for positions or suggestions along the way. . Maybe that's staying home longer, allowing their sensations to come regularly before seeking intervention, layering comfort measures and understanding their own process more fully.

*

Virtual Birth Support includes 1 x 60 min prenatal session via Proton Meet, Zoom or FaceTime to go over birth plan and preferences, strategies and options. Call, text and virtual support during labour, birth and 24 hrs postpartum. Includes access to online client portal.

Maybe you need someone to call.

They talked about induction and you're not sure what to ask

You left feeling confused about your options.

You're trying to make a birth plan but don't actually know what half of the choices mean.

You not sure what is optional, what is policy or standard practice

Or maybe you just need someone knowledgeable to sit down with you and help put it all together.

A 1-1 session or prenatal package may actually be a better fit for you than onsite birth support.

A private comfort measures session in your home. Last week, I had a wonderful session with a couple planning a home birth with their first baby. Here's a little of what we covered in the 2 hrs session!

* common interventions offered in a home setting
* physiological vs intervention
* helpful supplies for a home birth
* setting up the bed for labour
* labour positions in each room of the house
* emergent vs non-emergent transfer to hospital
* impact on birth plans
* planning for the first days and weeks of postpartum

According to BORN stats only 50% of women in Ontario deliver after spontaneous onset of labour. I wonder of that 50% how many receive intervention, augmentation of labour? So right now in our current system you have a 50% of going into labour spontaneously ... it's not you it's the system!

Last week I had a wonderful private comfort measure/prenatal session with a couple expecting their first baby.

*

They are planning for a home birth with regulated midwives so we began our session discussing birth physiology, routine interventions offered in a home birth setting for informed decision making, comfort measures and labour positions in their home

*
We then discussed emergent vs non-emergent transfers, what that looks like and potential deviations to their birth plan again for informed decision making. Facility policies and routine offered interventions in the hospital (for non-emergent transfers) and comfort measures in the hospital (especially with or without on board medical pain management).

*

We ended the session with postpartum planning and considerations, especially additional strategies for additional interventions during the birth that can add layers to your postpartum recovery, bonding and breastfeeding.

A comprehensive, multi lane birth plan is about knowing and understanding all options. While I really encourage focusing and preparing for the birth you actually want, the reality is only about 50% of women experience spontaneous onset of labour in Ontario according to the latest BORN stats (with many of those still experiencing intervention during their labour) with induction and caesareans on the rise.
