I’ve been piercing for years.
I’ve performed thousands upon thousands of piercings, and there are certain piercings I’ve done so many times that the entire process feels like second nature.

But every once in a while, a piercing will humble me and I’ll have one that decides to remind me that piercers are human too.

Maybe the jewelry doesn’t want to cooperate, or a transfer that normally takes seconds suddenly takes several attempts, or the anatomy makes me change my approach halfway through, or maybe, something that I’ve done flawlessly a thousand times suddenly decides it’s going to give me a run for my money that day.

And I think it’s important to talk about that.

Being an experienced piercer doesn’t mean that every piercing I perform will be completely effortless from start to finish.
It doesn’t mean I’ll never encounter something unexpected, need to stop and reassess, or have to reach for a different tool or technique.

Experience isn’t never having something go wrong or become difficult, experience is knowing what to do when it does.

It’s knowing when to slow down.
It’s knowing when something isn’t working and changing your approach instead of forcing it.

It’s having the tools, knowledge, and confidence to problem solve when a normally straightforward procedure suddenly decides it wants to humble you.

And yes, sometimes I’ll finish a piercing like that and internally think, “Well… that was unnecessarily dramatic.”
I will think about it for the next 3-5 business weeks and it will keep me up at night.

But it’s because I care deeply about the work I put out. I hold myself to a very high standard, and I want every client who sits in my chair to have the smoothest experience possible.

But the reality is, bodies aren’t identical. Piercings aren’t performed on mannequins. Jewelry doesn’t always cooperate perfectly. People can swell, bleed, get dizzy, faint, twitch, sneeze, panic, laugh, move, because we’re all human.

And on the other side of that needle is another human, too. 🖤

A piercer can have years of experience and thousands of beautiful piercings behind them and still occasionally have a piercing that makes them work for it.

That’s not always a sign of inexperience, sometimes it’s just a Tuesday afternoon in the piercing studio.

✨ FRIENDLY VACATION REMINDER ✨

Just popping in with another little reminder that I am currently away on holidays and the shop is CLOSED until August 27th! 🖤

I promise I haven’t disappeared! I’m just taking a much needed little break, enjoying BC, and pretending I don’t have responsibilities for a few days.

I will be back and responding to all piercing/booking inquiries after the 27th!

Thank you for your patience, and I’ll see all your beautiful faces when I’m home. 🖤

✨ “Can I bring my own jewelry for my piercing?” ✨

This is actually a question I’ve been asked quite a few times over the years, and if you’re not a piercer, it makes total sense why you’d ask!

Maybe you found the perfect piece of jewelry, already own something you love, or bought a matching set specifically for your new piercing. Naturally, you might think “can we just pierce with this instead?”

Unfortunately, the answer is no, but there’s a good reason for it! 🖤

All of the jewelry I use for initial piercings comes directly from my professional wholesale supplier pre- sterilized and ready for use.
My studio does not have an autoclave on-site, which means I’m unable to sterilize jewelry in the shop.

Because of this, jewelry brought in by clients cannot be used for an initial piercing.
I have no way to verify or provide the required sterilization of that piece before placing it into a brand new piercing.
Initial jewelry needs to be an appropriate material, gauge, style and length, including enough room to accommodate to the swelling that naturally happens after being pierced.

Once your piercing has healed enough to safely change jewelry, then we can have some fun! You’ll have way more freedom to switch things up and wear the jewelry you originally had your heart set on. 🖤

So if I’ve ever told you, “Unfortunately, I can’t pierce you with jewelry from home”
I’m not trying to be difficult or make you purchase something unnecessarily.

I’m only following SHA guidelines and regulations to making sure anything being placed into a fresh piercing is sterile, appropriate, and safe. 🖤

Fresh piercings are wounds first, accessories second. ✨

✨ LET’S TALK HIGH NOSTRILS ✨

I’ve had quite a few people asking about my high nostril piercings lately, so I wanted to give a little education on them, because while they are absolutely stunning and unique, high nostrils are not your average nostril piercing. 🖤

First things first: they are anatomy dependent.

Everyone’s nasal anatomy is different, and how high your nostril cavity extends plays a huge role in where these can safely and comfortably be placed. Unfortunately, not everyone will have the anatomy for the super high placement they may have seen elsewhere.

They’re also a piercing that requires a LOT of patience.

✨ Initial jewelry is LONG.
High nostrils can swell significantly more than a standard nostril piercing, so they need to be pierced with extra room on the initial posts to accommodate that swelling.

✨ Expect multiple downsizes.
And I mean multiple.
As swelling settles and the piercing heals, the jewelry needs to gradually become shorter. Some people may go through 3-4 downsizes throughout the healing process before finally reaching that cute, snug fit.

✨ Irritation bumps are extremely common.
High nostrils can be extremely finicky.
Movement, snagging, pressure, jewelry length and even normal swelling fluctuations can cause irritation throughout healing.

A standard nostril piercing may heal in roughly 4–6 months, while high nostrils can easily take a year or longer to fully settle.

For some real life perspective: mine are approaching TWO YEARS OLD, and I was only able to comfortably downsize them to their final snug posts a couple of months ago.

They weren’t extremely difficult for that entire time, but they absolutely required patience, proper jewelry, downsizing when appropriate, and accepting that sometimes they were going to be dramatic and have bumps for seemingly no reason.

High nostrils are BEAUTIFUL. They’re unique, striking, and easily one of my favourite piercing placements.

But they are definitely a commitment piercing.

If you’re considering them, come prepared for a longer healing journey, multiple jewelry changes/downsizes, possible irritation bumps, and a whole lot of patience.

Sometimes the coolest piercings make you work for them, but it’s always worth it.🖤✨

🖤 SMALL BOOKING POLICY UPDATE 🖤

Going forward, all consultation and jewelry change/swap appointments will require the service fee to be paid at the time of booking.

Please keep in mind that even when you are not receiving a new piercing, these appointments still require dedicated appointment time, professional service, supplies, sterilized tools and use of the studio and therefore are not complimentary appointments.

This fee covers the appointment/service itself.
If you are purchasing specialty jewelry during your appointment, the cost of that jewelry will be additional at the time of the appointment.

Just to clear up any further confusion regarding these specific appointments, I’ve decided that collecting the service fee upon booking is the easiest and clearest solution moving forward.

As always, thank you for understanding and I appreciate everyone who respects my time, my work and my little business. 🖤

Just a little heads up to all of my wonderful clients that I’ll be away from the shop August 20th–27th for a much needed summer vacation!

It has been such an incredible summer at the shop, and I’ve been so unbelievably grateful for how busy you’ve all kept me. 🖤
After a beautiful summer of work and classes, I’m looking forward to taking a week to unplug, spend some time with family, breathe in some mountain air and come back feeling refreshed and ready for everything ahead.

The shop will be closed while I’m away, so if you’ve been wanting to get in before I leave, make sure to book your appointment before the 20th!
Responses to messages and inquiries may be delayed during these dates, as I will be limiting my availability for work related subjects, however I will respond when I can!

Thank you all for continuing to support my little business and allowing me to do what I love. I appreciate you more than you know. 🖤
