What happened to my mid section. I don't eat that much. Read what PJ Hanks has to say.
Cortisol belly" is everywhere on your feed right now — but the conversation is missing the most important piece of the puzzle. 👇
If you've noticed weight gathering around your midsection no matter how well you eat or exercise, you're not imagining it. When your body is in a state of chronic stress, it pumps out cortisol.
And cortisol has a specific job: it tells your body to store fat right around your vital organs (your belly) as protection.
It also suppresses the enzyme responsible for breaking down stored fat. Your body literally locks it in.
You cannot out-diet or out-exercise a stressed nervous system. In fact, pushing when your cortisol is already high can actually make the problem worse.
To shift the weight, you have to shift the nervous system first. Here are some ideas.
👃1. The Olfactory Reset
Scent is the fastest way to bypass the conscious brain and speak to the the brain's stress center. You can use Lavender and Bergamot essential oils daily. Clinical studies show that inhaling these oils lowers cortisol levels and heart rate within minutes. Diffuse them while you work, or apply to your pulse when you feel the overwhelm.
🌿 2. Clary Sage for Hormonal Harmony
When cortisol is high 🥴, other hormones (like estrogen and progesterone) often get pushed out of balance. Clary Sage is a good for supporting healthy hormonal pathways and reducing the physiological markers of stress. Add a drop to a carrier oil and massage over the lower abdomen.
💤3. Sleep as the Ultimate Regulator 😴
Cortisol naturally drops at night so you can sleep, and rises in the morning to wake you. When you're chronically stressed, this curve flattens out. Prioritizing deep, restorative sleep is non-negotiable for belly fat reduction.
🚶♀️➡️ 4. Low-Impact Movement
Swap the HIIT classes for walking, or gentle stretching. These encourage lymphatic flow and insulin sensitivity without spiking your stress hormones.
The truth is, your body isn't fighting you — it's trying to protect you. When you stop fighting back and start supporting it everything changes.
Which of these four areas do you feel you need to work on most right now?
