🌟WE’RE FINALISTS!🌟

I’m feeling incredibly thankful today.

Tides has been named a finalist for Small Business of the Year. 🤍

But this nomination doesn’t belong to me alone.

To every member of our Tides team, thank you. For the heart you bring to your work, for the way you care for our clients, and for helping make Tides what it is.

To our clients, thank you for trusting us with your stories, your families and some of the most vulnerable parts of your lives. That trust is never something I take lightly.

And to this community, thank you.

Sylvan Lake has been home for 26 years. We raised our kids here, built our lives here, and now I get to watch my grandchildren grow up here too. There’s something pretty special about that.

When I opened Tides five years ago, I couldn’t have imagined everything it would become. To have our work recognized by the community we love and call home feels incredibly special.

Whatever happens on awards night, I already feel very blessed to have made it this far alongside some amazing Sylvan Lake businesses.

Thank you, Sylvan Lake.

I’m so proud of what we’ve built together.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day. 🤍

Sometimes the people who are struggling the most are the ones you’d never expect.

They’re still going to work.
Still caring for their families.
Still showing up.
Still smiling.
And sometimes, quietly wondering how much longer they can keep doing it.

We need to make it safer to say, “I’m not okay.”

Ask the question. Check in again. Listen without rushing to fix. Take someone seriously when they tell you they’re struggling.

And if you’re the one struggling today, please reach out. You don’t have to have the right words. You don’t have to explain everything.

Your life matters. There is hope, even when you can’t feel it yet.

Hi, my name is Caitlyn and I am currently in my practicum for my Masters of Counselling in Psychology degree. I have had the honour of working alongside many adolescents through their life challenges such as addiction, trauma, anxiety, major life transitions, self esteem and navigating relationship dynamics. I take pride in having a collaborative approach in the therapy room where individuals feel heard, understood and empowered to reach their full potential. My goal is to create a safe space that is filled with compassion and non judgment. I work to develop a strong therapeutic relationship that’s built on empathy and trust to promote healing and growth.

My approach to counselling is trauma informed and grounded in techniques that are catered to the individual’s needs. I have a particular interest in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), as it is evidence based and helpful in treating a wide range of mental health conditions.

I believe every individual deserves and is capable of living a life of mental wellness and prosperity. I have a passion for working with adolescents and young adults but I welcome any individual to the therapy room.

It takes great courage to show up for yourself and I would be honoured to have the privilege to hear your story.

Three weeks at the School of Blake and apparently I’m still teachable. 😂

Learning to show up, say what I mean, stop over-explaining and have a little more fun with it.

But for today… SCHOOL’S OUT!

A medically uncomplicated birth can still be emotionally traumatic.

What does that actually mean?

I have mums sit across from me and say,

“I don’t understand why I’m struggling. I had a normal delivery.”

And my question is often:

“But how did you experience that delivery?”

Because “normal” on a medical chart doesn’t necessarily tell me what it felt like for you.

Maybe you thought you were going to lose your baby.

Maybe you felt completely out of control.

Maybe you were terrified.

Maybe you didn’t feel heard or seen.

Maybe everything happened so quickly that your body is still trying to make sense of it.

And yes, there are women whose birth stories include devastating loss, infertility, miscarriage or stillbirth.

Those experiences are different.

Acknowledging one woman’s trauma doesn’t diminish another woman’s grief.

There’s room for both stories.

Because trauma isn’t a competition, and we don’t have to decide whose experience was worse before we’re allowed to acknowledge that something hurt.

So instead of asking,

“Why am I struggling when everything turned out okay?”

Maybe we get curious and ask:

“How did I experience what happened to me?”

Your story matters.

For a long time, my focus was outward.

Is everyone okay?
What do they need?
What can I do to help?

I call it my doorbell camera, always pointed outward, others-focused and others-centered.

One of the biggest shifts for me has been learning to turn that camera inward.

Not to stop caring for others, but to include myself in the equation too.

And here’s what surprised me…

Sometimes I still make exactly the same choice I would have made before.

The difference is, I’m choosing it rather than doing it because I believe it’s expected of me.

That choice is helping me build something I didn’t realize I was missing, trust and safety within myself.

So maybe today, turn your doorbell camera inward for a moment and ask:

What do I need? 🤍

She says you’re emotionally unavailable.
You think you’re just trying to keep the peace.

You don’t want another argument.
You don’t know what else to say.
So you go quiet.
Pull away.
Get busy.
Shut down.

And the more she pushes for connection, the more you want space.

That cycle can leave both of you feeling alone.

It doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t care.

It may mean you learned a long time ago that emotions were something you handled on your own.

That’s often what dismissive-avoidant attachment looks like in a relationship.

I’m Kevin, a Marriage & Family Therapist at TIDES. I work with men and couples who are tired of having the same argument, the same shutdown, and the same distance.

You don’t have to choose between your independence and your relationship.

You can learn how to stay.

Stay present.
Stay connected.
Stay in the conversation.

And that can change a marriage.
