In Traditional Chinese Medicine, women are said to progress through seven-year cycles. Around the seventh cycle of seven (approximately age 49), Tian Gui begins to decline and the menopausal transition naturally begins.

While menopause is a normal stage of life, symptoms such as hot flashes, poor sleep, anxiety, brain fog, joint pain, and frozen shoulder can have a significant impact on day-to-day wellbeing.

From a TCM perspective, patterns such as declining Kidney Yin and Kidney Essence, Liver Qi stagnation, and deficiencies of Qi and Blood may contribute to these symptoms.

Research suggests acupuncture may help improve sleep, reduce hot flashes, ease anxiety, and support overall quality of life during this transition

In TCM, every organ has a time of peak activity.

The Liver’s time is 1-3am.

Waking during this window can point to stagnation, often linked to stress, emotional holding, or qi not moving as freely as it could.

Those middle of the night wake ups can be a hint about what’s going on in your body.
