Why do my muscles feel tender for a day or two after a massage?

Some clients experience Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) following a massage, particularly after a treatment using deeper pressure. Similar to the soreness you may feel after exercise, this tenderness usually develops within 24–48 hours after your appointment.

As massage releases muscle tension, works on areas of restriction and encourages circulation, your muscles may feel temporarily tender as they recover.

To help minimize post-treatment tenderness, Lynley recommends drinking plenty of water after your massage, enjoying a warm Epsom salt bath, and applying gentle heat with a heating pad if needed.

If soreness lasts longer than a couple of days or you have any concerns, we’re always happy to answer your questions.

And yes—we offer Sunday massage appointments! A perfect way to unwind, reset and head into the week feeling your best.
