Henderson’s Pharmacy has been family owned in Thorold since 1939. Trained pharmacists provide full Henderson opened what the St. Macartney in 1872.

Henderson’s Pharmacy has been a fixture of downtown Thorold since 1939 when Edward M. Catharines Standard called “one of the brightest spots on Thorold’s main street.”
It was not a brand new store, however, for Henderson had purchased an existing business founded by William J. This means a drugstore has occupied the same building on the west side of Front Street for more than 140 years. Of course, the recorded history of the location itself goes back much further again to the very beginnings of European settlement in the Niagara Peninsula in the late 18th century. Thanks to our loyal customers, dedicated staff, suppliers and community partners, Henderson’s is celebrating 75 great years in business while planning to continue serving the community for the future. ❤️ KNOW THE SIGNS. PREVENT THE CLOTS. SAVE LIVES.

October 13 is World Thrombosis Day, and Henderson’s Pharmacy is helping raise awareness about blood clots and the importance of prevention.

Thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein or artery, potentially blocking blood flow and causing serious complications.

In 2026, the focus is on women’s health. A woman’s risk of developing a blood clot can change throughout her life — from adolescence and reproductive health to pregnancy, the postpartum period, menopause and beyond.

Know the warning signs:

Leg or arm: Sudden swelling, pain or tenderness, warmth or redness.
Lungs: Sudden shortness of breath, chest pain or coughing up blood.

Blood clots can be life-threatening. If you experience symptoms that may indicate a clot, seek urgent medical attention. Sudden shortness of breath or chest pain warrants calling 911.

Awareness matters. Understanding your risk factors, recognizing symptoms and talking with your healthcare provider can help protect your health.

SHINE A LIGHT ON BREAST CANCER THIS OCTOBER

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Henderson’s Pharmacy is encouraging our community to get involved, raise awareness and support the fight against breast cancer. 💗

Do you have a breast cancer story, experience or message of hope you’d like to share?
We invite you to share it and shine a light in the comments below. Your story may help raise awareness, encourage someone else or remind them that they’re not alone.

Learn more. 1 in 8 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Canada, with approximately 75 people diagnosed every day.

Screening matters. Breast cancer screening can help find breast cancer before symptoms develop. Screening programs are available across Canada through organized screening programs or healthcare providers.

This month, take a moment to learn about breast cancer, understand your risk, talk with your healthcare provider and encourage the people you care about to do the same.

Tremendous progress is possible when we act together.

Let’s shine a light on breast cancer and help make awareness part of the conversation in our community.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: A LOOK BACK AT THOROLD HISTORY!

Let’s turn back the clock to June 13, 2007, when an official presentation by Heritage Thorold LACAC was held at Henderson’s Pharmacy to announce the historic designation of the Macartney Drug Store.
The event featured several special guests and speakers, including then Mayor of Thorold Henry D’Angela. Pictured here in front of the store is Brock University Professor Alun Hughes, who shared the history and architectural significance of the property with those gathered.
In 2014, a special heritage plaque (shown in photo inset) was presented by Heritage Thorold at Henderson's 75th anniversary celebration. You can still see it today on the exterior of Henderson’s Pharmacy at 15 Front Street South!
From the Macartney Drug Store to Henderson’s Pharmacy, this building has been part of Thorold’s story for generations.
