Why do corns keep coming back?

Corns are often caused by repeated pressure or rubbing.

The hard skin can be reduced, but that may only be temporary if the pressure continues. The next step is identifying where the pressure is coming from and how it may be reduced.

You're looking at one foot, over time.

Most people have never heard of Charcot foot. It tends to show up quietly in people living with diabetes. The foot changes shape, it starts carrying weight in all the wrong places, and often it doesn't hurt, because the nerves that would normally sound the alarm have gone quiet.

That's the part that catches people off guard. Some people lose protective sensation, the feeling that tells you something is wrong, so changes happen before anyone notices. The pressure map isn't decoration. Those red zones show where this foot was pressing hardest, the areas that need watching most.

Once Charcot has changed a foot, the shape of the bone doesn't go back. So the whole job becomes protecting the skin over those high pressure spots and keeping a very close eye on them. In the last frame, the skin has healed and held. That came from close monitoring, not luck.

The most important part is this: feet like this have to be monitored closely. Chiropodists are trained to do exactly that, to monitor, to treat, and to refer when things move beyond our scope of practice. Nobody manages a foot like this alone.

We're sharing this with the patient's signed blessing, not to alarm anyone, but so people understand it plainly. A foot like this is no joke. If you're living with diabetes, see a chiropodist, and we'll work together to keep your feet as healthy as possible in the situation you're in.

Please remember, every case is different and outcomes vary. Situations like these can change quickly, which is exactly why close monitoring matters so much.

What Is a Wart?

Whenever I see a patient with what may be a wart, I ask, “What is a wart?” Most people aren’t sure, and many expect it can simply be removed during the first visit.

A wart is a small growth caused by a virus in the top layer of skin called the epidermis , it's not dirt, and not a callus. Two clues people miss: tiny dark dots inside it, and it often stings more when pinched from the sides than when pressed straight down. Hard skin is usually the reverse. It can also spread, so if you think you might have a wart keep it covered and wear something like sandals on your feet in shared showers.

At Rainville Foot Health, we use our PACT™ Patient Journey. We listen first, assess the area to determine whether it is a wart, explain the options, and let you decide how to move forward. Then we stay with you through treatment and follow-up.

Every foot is different, and treatment results vary from person to person. If you have a spot on your foot that may be a wart, book an appointment for an individualized assessment.

No referral needed. We’re glad to accept one, and you can also book with us directly.

🦶 CRACKED HEELS!
WHY THEY HAPPEN, AND WHAT HELPS

Cracked heels are one of those things people put up with for years, usually because they seem like "just a cosmetic thing."

They're not, really. It starts with dry skin. The skin around the heel thickens, loses its stretch, and the pressure of walking splits it. Once it splits, it can be genuinely sore to stand on.

đź’§ DAY-TO-DAY CARE

• Moisturize regularly, heels especially where the cracks are
• Shoes that fit and hold the back of the foot
• Wear the shoes rather than bare feet, indoors and out
• A look at your feet daily, so you notice a change early

🩺 IF YOU HAVE HEALTH ISSUES

Protecting the skin on your feet matters even more and seeing your Chiropody foot clinic can help you with cracked heels.

👣 WHAT AN APPOINTMENT INVOLVES

We review your health status information, look at the skin and at what's contributing to it, footwear, how you carry weight through the foot, general foot health. Thickened, hard skin is reduced. Then we go through a foot-care routine you can keep up with at home.

If something on your feet has changed and you're not sure about it, that's a reasonable thing to have looked at. And nobody needs to feel awkward about it, feet are the whole job here 🙂

âś… NO REFERRAL NEEDED

We're glad to accept one, and you can also book with us directly.

* EVERY FOOT IS DIFFERENT — results vary from person to person. Shared to help people understand foot health, not to promise an outcome.

Most people don't think about their feet until they start to hurt.

By then, the small thing — the callus, the thick nail, the ache that started as "probably nothing" — has had months to settle in.

Here's what we wish more people knew: a Chiropodist is the foot-health specialist for exactly this. Not the emergency version. The catch-it-early, keep-you-moving version.

And whether you're in Timmins, Owen Sound, or Hanover, that care is closer than you think. Booking takes about a minute, online.

Your feet carry you through your whole life. They're worth an hour of it.
