As Dr. John Sarno taught, chronic pain and symptoms can sometimes be the language of emotions that have been pushed aside.

Healing begins when we become curious about what the body may be trying to express.

Awareness is often the first step toward healing a sensitized nervous system.

Your brain likes what it knows. Even if what it knows is stress, overthinking, pain, or constantly being on alert. Familiarity feels safer to the nervous system than change does.

That’s why healing can feel uncomfortable at first. You’re not just learning new patterns, you’re teaching your brain that unfamiliar doesn’t automatically mean unsafe. And that takes repetition, patience, and a lot of self-compassion.

Small moments of choice, consistency, and self-trust can help signal safety to the brain and calm a sensitized nervous system.

The thing about symptoms is that the more desperately you want them gone, the more your brain keeps paying attention to them. Not because you’re doing anything wrong, but because attention is how the brain decides what matters.

So when every sensation turns into “How do I stop this?” or “Why is this still here?” your nervous system starts treating it like an important problem that needs constant monitoring.

A lot of healing happens when you stop turning every feeling into an emergency. When you stop checking, fixing, analyzing, and fighting with your body all day long. That’s often when the brain finally starts to quiet down.

✨ Are you afraid you will never heal? This is so common, and I too once believed this.

Doubt becomes a nocebo. Belief in harm leads to harm, and can keep you stuck in threat physiology.

When you stop believing your body can heal, the brain stays on alert, fear becomes embodied, and the pain stays locked on.

Belief in well-being leads to well-being
