A couple of days at the CCIM Conference in the Gold Coast and, despite being very much not a doctor, I somehow related to almost every session I sat in.
Leadership. Burnout. Change. Identity. Pressure. Trying to do a good job while also having an actual life.
Turns out, strip away the job titles and we’re all just humans trying to figure out how to fit it all in.
Which feels pretty fitting for a conference themed Metamorphosis.
Because we’re all constantly becoming slightly different versions of ourselves. In our careers, our families, our relationships and somewhere in there, ourselves.
Constantly juggling ambition with guilt. Wanting to be present at work without feeling like you should be somewhere else. Wanting to be present at home without mentally running through everything you haven’t finished at work.
A very relaxing way to live. 😂
I made the call to change my flight and get home for Father’s Day and the kids’ last soccer game. And weirdly, once I’d made the decision, I could actually enjoy being here. No more internal debate about where I should be. I could just be where I was.
I didn’t manage to put my feet in the sand while I was away, which feels mildly offensive, but I’m learning to trust that sometimes you make the call, change the plan and keep moving. I don’t think I would have enjoyed the pause anyway, knowing I’m missing something at home.
Maybe that’s part of the metamorphosis too.
Not having the balance figured out. Just getting a little better at knowing what matters in that moment and trusting yourself enough to choose it. 🦋✨
