When we talk about developing independence in autistic children, one of the most widely used, evidence-based approaches is ABA therapy. A common question parents ask is: where do we start?

ABA is tailored to each child’s developmental stage, age, and individual needs. Understanding these differences can make a huge impact on your child’s progress.

👶 Young children (2–3 years old)
At this stage, the focus is on building foundations. Programs typically target essential skills such as:
• Joint attention
• Early communication
• Reducing behaviors that interfere with learning
• Simple play and social interaction
• Early independence in small routines

Here, the goal isn’t full independence yet—it’s developing the prerequisites that will support it later. Learning happens through play, repetition, and positive reinforcement.

👦 Older children (8–9 years old)
For older children, the program takes on a different level of complexity. Many foundational skills are already in place, and the focus becomes more functional and practical:
• Self-care
• More complex social skills
• Independence in daily living
• More advanced communication
• Greater autonomy at school and at home

At this stage, ABA focuses on functional independence—skills that directly impact everyday life for the child and family.

🔍 What stays the same
Regardless of age, a strong ABA program is:
✔ Individualized
✔ Respectful of the child’s pace
✔ Based on positive reinforcement
✔ Goal-oriented and measurable
✔ Involves the family throughout the process

💡 Most importantly: it’s never “too early” or “too late” to start. The plan evolves, the strategies change, but there are always ways to support greater independence and quality of life.

If you’re looking to help your child become more independent, understanding these stages is the first step. With the right support, every small achievement becomes a meaningful milestone.

✏️ More than just writing…
This activity carries a powerful impact on child development!

The structured writing task — using guided lines and a visual model — is widely used in Occupational Therapy to develop graphomotor and cognitive skills.

🧠 What is being targeted:
• Fine motor coordination (pencil grasp and control)
• Visual-motor integration
• Spatial organization (using lines and margins properly)
• Sustained attention and focus
• Motor planning and sequencing
• Early literacy skills (letter and word formation)

📊 Areas impacted in development:
• Academic performance (clearer, more efficient handwriting)
• Independence in school tasks
• Confidence and self-esteem (through progress)
• Executive functions (organization, persistence, self-correction)

🔮 Long-term outcomes:
Improving these skills supports better academic performance, greater independence in daily activities, and the development of essential life skills such as organization, discipline, and the ability to complete tasks more autonomously.

📌 Early, targeted interventions make a significant difference in a child’s developmental journey.

Receiving a recent autism diagnosis can feel overwhelming… “Where do I start?” “Which therapy is right for my child?” 💛

You don’t have to figure it all out at once. Every child is unique, and there are many ways to support their growth. Speech therapy is often a great starting point, especially for children with communication challenges. Other therapies, like:
• ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis)
• Occupational Therapy
• Child Psychotherapy

…can also make a huge difference. And combining therapies often maximizes results ✨ helping with self-regulation, confidence, and skills for independence.

💡 The most important thing? Taking the first step.

One of the main reasons families contact us is to seek support for their child’s communication development — whether to encourage language, enhance social interaction, or support children with diverse developmental profiles.

We understand that communication goes far beyond words. It happens in everyday interactions, through play, gestures, eye contact, and relationships. That’s why our work is centered on the child as a whole, considering their context, daily routine, and unique ways of expressing themselves.

🗣️We use a variety of therapeutic approaches, with a special focus on the Gestalt model, which values the here-and-now experience and views development as an integrated process. Inspired by widely recognized principles in child development — such as the importance of meaningful interactions and a responsive environment — we aim to make the therapeutic process more natural, functional, and embedded in the child’s daily life.

💡Another important difference: we offer sessions with no waiting list, allowing families to begin support when they need it most.

If you have concerns about your child’s communication development or are looking for professional guidance, we’re here to help.

Today, on Autism Awareness Day, we raise more than a message — we raise a cause.

We speak of the daily, relentless, and often unseen struggle of families who never give up. Families who face barriers just to secure the basics: respect, true inclusion, quality education, and access to dignified, consistent, and truly effective care.

This is not about minimal adaptation. It is about social transformation. It is about breaking down prejudice, confronting neglect, and demanding policies and practices that honor the uniqueness and potential of every autistic person.

At CRC Clinic, we are not on the sidelines of this reality — we are in it, standing side by side with every family, listening, supporting, and advocating. We understand that inclusion cannot be an empty statement: it must be lived, built, and defended every single day.

We move forward together. Hand in hand, with responsibility, commitment, and courage, building a future where autistic people have not only space, but true belonging, autonomy, and dignity.

Because this fight belongs to all of us.

We will resume normal hours on Saturday, April 4th, and Monday, April 6th.

Today we celebrate the quiet strength of extraordinary women…
🌸
At CRC, our tribute goes especially to the warrior mothers of children with special needs. Every day, you carry a powerful mix of love, courage, and resilience. You face challenges that many people never see — sleepless nights, the fight for inclusion, difficult decisions, and a kind of care that never truly rests.

Even when the body feels tired and the human heart feels fragile, there is within you an unbreakable strength. A strength born from love. A strength that transforms obstacles into paths and challenges into small but meaningful victories.

Our entire CRC team honors you today.

You are proof that true strength is not about never falling, but about rising again every single day for the ones you love.

Happy International Women’s Day.
