Afsana Lallani needs a living liver donor

This we are celebrating a new advancement in liver transplantation that is giving hope to those waiting for a life-saving transplant. 💚

The Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) is the first hospital in North America to use Liver Assist in clinical practice. This technology allows doctors to treat and assess a donated liver outside the body before transplantation.

In the story featured by CBC News, this meant a patient was able to receive a donated liver that might otherwise have been considered too risky to use.

By giving transplant teams the opportunity to assess and improve the condition of donated livers before transplant, this new technology could help make more organs available for those waiting for their new beginning.

Building on our commitment to the PSC community, we're proud to share that the U.S. FDA has granted Breakthrough Therapy and Orphan Drug Designation to volixibat, a potential treatment option for cholestatic pruritus in people with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC).
