Episode 1: Mariam, Founder of Souk & Silk Vintage

I’ve been wanting to create a space for more honest, heartfelt conversations about our skin, ageing, and the ways our relationship with ourselves changes as we move through life.

Because our skin carries so much of our story. The late nights, the stress, motherhood, joy, change, and all the seasons we grow through.

So I’m beginning with Mariam, founder Souk 𓋹 Silk Vintage
She’s almost 40, a mum of two, a business owner, and a woman who, like so many of us, has noticed her skin changing along the way.

We spoke about what she’s seeing in her skin, how motherhood and stress have shaped her, what ageing means to her now, and how her relationship with herself has evolved over time.

Because I don’t believe ageing is something we need to “fix.”

I believe our skin deserves understanding, care, and support through every stage.

And I’d love to hear how other women are experiencing that journey too.

Want a less puffy face? Don’t start with your face. Start with your neck.

The sternocleidomastoid, or SCM, is a major muscle running along the side of the neck. When the neck is constantly holding tension from stress, posture, screens, clenching or training, it can contribute to stiffness and restricted movement in the area.

That’s why I don’t look at facial puffiness in isolation. The face, jaw, neck and surrounding tissues are all connected.

Before aggressively massaging your face, try slowing down and releasing tension through the neck with gentle movement and massage.

Your face is not separate from your body. ✨

First, I’m not anti-weightlifting. Resistance training is one of the best things you can do for strength, bone health and healthy aging.

But here’s something I think we talk about less: how much tension we accumulate while training.

Heavy lifting often involves gripping, bracing and recruiting muscles through the shoulders, upper chest, neck and jaw. Some people also clench their teeth or elevate their shoulders while exercising.

That doesn’t mean weightlifting automatically “ages your face.” But if you already carry a lot of tension through your jaw, neck, traps and chest, repetitive muscle contraction and poor recovery may contribute to stiffness, discomfort and the way these areas move and hold tension.

And that’s where my routine comes in.

At 38, I don’t believe there is one facial routine that works for everyone.

Some people may benefit most from facial massage and soft-tissue work.

Others may need to focus on mobility and posture through the neck and chest.

Some people need more relaxation and tension release because they clench their jaw all day.

Others may enjoy face yoga or targeted exercises to improve awareness and movement.

And sometimes, doing more isn’t the answer. Sometimes your face needs less pulling, less tension and more recovery. My own routine includes a combination of:

✨ Facial and neck massage
✨ Jaw and neck tension release
✨ Chest and shoulder mobility
✨ Lymphatic techniques for temporary puffiness
✨ Targeted facial movement and exercises
✨ Posture awareness
✨ Skincare and SPF all the way down to my chest
✨ Recovery and nervous system regulation

The important part? My routine is based on my individual needs. Your face has its own patterns. Your lifestyle matters. Your posture matters. The way you train matters. Where you hold tension matters.

There is no universal facial massage routine, face yoga routine or “anti-aging” protocol that makes sense for every single person.

Not everything natural is automatically good for acne.

As someone who cleared my own acne and works with skin professionally, this is my list of things I personally wouldn’t buy at the health food store specifically to treat acne, and why.

From harsh essential oils to overly stripping cleansers and products with no evidence-based acne ingredients, “natural” doesn’t always mean effective, gentle, or acne-friendly.

My baby just celebrated his 12th birthday. 🥹💛

It’s hard to put into words how many good things have happened in my life because I was blessed with this boy. Becoming his mom changed me, shaped me, grounded me, challenged me, and gave my life a kind of purpose I never could have imagined.

And I am just so grateful that I get to be his mom.

Watching Sage grow into the person he is becoming has been one of the greatest joys of my life. He is intelligent, hilarious, incredibly independent, so well spoken, and somehow has the vocabulary of a 40-year-old man 😂.

A few fun facts about Sage:

✨ He barely spoke until he was almost 3, and now he has the vocabulary of a 40-year-old.

✨ He’s a Virgo, which honestly explains a lot. 😂

✨ He loves animals.

✨ He loves gaming with his friends and is ridiculously social.

✨ He loves dim sum, sushi, and instant noodles. A true man of range. 😂🍣🍜

✨ He is absolutely obsessed with coconuts. 🥥

✨ He is approximately 5’3” now and will almost certainly be taller than me very soon, which feels personally offensive.

✨ He is wildly independent.

✨ He has an investment account that he actually checks on. At TWELVE. 😭😂

I am so proud of this boy and the person he is becoming. He is curious, interesting, thoughtful, independent and genuinely one of my favourite people to spend time with.

So many beautiful things in my life exist because I was blessed with him, and I will never stop being grateful that I get to be his mom.

Happy 12th birthday, Sage. 💛

Thank you for being my greatest blessing and for making life infinitely more interesting.

I genuinely cannot wait to see who you become.

But maybe slow down just a little? Your mother is emotionally unprepared. 🥹😂💛
