Why a peacock? I chose a peacock for my website picture because I thought it was so beautiful and the bird carries itself with such pride. Is it too proud? I started to think about this choice The definition of the word peacock is that of vanity and self-consciousness, which is the furthest away from what my work is about. But does this beautiful bird and image deserve this?
It’s only trying to connect and attract.

With further research I found other words to describe this magnificent creature. The peacock is a possessor of some of the most admired human characteristics, and is a symbol of integrity and the beauty we can achieve when we endeavor to show our true colours. In history, myth, legend and lore the peacock symbolism carries portents of: nobility, holiness, guidance, protection and watchfulness (“Tips on Interpreting Symbolic meanings “)

Think I’ll go with that!

We pay so little attention to our voice and how we sound.

Did you know the easiest and fastest voice warmups are Humming and Yawning? Hum in the shower, in your car to your favourite tune, before every meeting and when you need to speak. Your voice will thank you. It needs to be warmed up too!

Yawning is wonderful. Besides bring a necessary good amount of air into to your lungs (I’m always yawning when I’m nervous and it reminds me that I have taken too many shallow anxious breaths and my body is craving more air). Yawning also opens and stretches our jaw which also clenches when we are tight.

Easy way to do a “fake” yawn - drop your jaw, open your mouth wide, then take a deep breath and with your mouth wide open release the breath with a big AHHHH. You will be yawning in
no time!

Why use improvisation as a tool when coaching in confident communication? Yes it’s fun! It’s also such a useful technique.

In an improv exercise we are told to say “Yes, and...” This opens up the conversation, shows you are listening and then you add something to give back and grow the conversation. You learn to trust your instincts, by thinking on the spot, when given circumstances and a few words to build a story or scene on. It exercises those spontaneous and flexible areas of your brain, so you can come up with more creative ideas.

With practice in the “unknown“, you become more comfortable and recognize that you can handle those moments that used to throw you off.

A teacher once said that to me and I was deeply offended at the idea I could be judged so quickly by a physicality, and what he had to say I didn’t want to hear.

But since then I’ve had a chance to rethink this.

In certain situations, we do need to be aware of what we present in those first 7 seconds.

I’m short with a turned-up nose and lots of energy. I may have to dress and speak in a certain way, when advocating for myself or presenting important information. Be aware of what nature has gifted you with and your patterns and habits. Then you can adjust
your attitude and dress for what you need for your advantage and comfort in new environments.

Intention – In Sanskrit is Samkalpa

“An Idea found in the heart and mind”

I love this, because we tend to think of an intention as a thought coming from our mind. But if we add our hearts (our passion?), our intentions become deeper, richer and we connect on a whole other level.

We are drawn to people who appear confident. Not the overblown bragging kind, but the solid and relaxed demeanor of a truly confident person.

The “official “definition of Confidence is “Belief in oneself and one’s powers or abilities, self- reliance, assurance, trustworthiness”. As actors we have to believably communicate, on cue with confidence, no matter how we feel. If we can’t make you believe what we are saying, then we are not doing our job.

So how do we do it on those days when we are not feeling our best? We call it grounding or centering ourselves. A simple way of grounding is breathing in deeply (belly breathing) into our center. There is a craft and practice to centering/ grounding. One quick tip involves patting, just below your belly button, mindfully (if you are somewhere that you can’t do that, simply place your hands there), take a breath and this will automatically start to bring your energy back to your own power source.

Love that the word inspiration comes from the Latin word “inspiratus”, meaning 'to breathe into'. In English it had meant 'the drawing of air into the lungs' since the middle of the 16th century.

Reinforcing that the best way to prepare for receiving or giving inspiration, is to take a deep breath, feel the sense of your own power and then go for it!

As my friends know, I’ve always had an uncomfortable relationship with competition. Just recently, it was brought to my attention, that the original root of the word “compete” did not mean, what I believed it to. Coming from the latin “competere” meaning 'to coincide', 'to be equal to', 'to be capable of'. “Competo” is broken down to COM meaning 'with', and PETO meaning 'I seek', 'I am' or 'I strive for'.

So here is to healthy competition, may we strive together to do our best. And yes in these covid times, it does allow time to muse about all of this...!

The English term charisma derives from the Greek khárisma, meaning "favor freely given" or "gift of grace". The term and its plural (charismata) derive from charis, which means "grace" or indeed "charm" with which it shares the root. Real rooted confidence includes “grace“. It is what makes us pay attention and draws us in. The tools involved in charismatic, confident communication, include techniques in breath, voice, body language, speaking and listening skills. Practicing this craft, enables us to become dynamic communicators.

Hello to my FB friends,
As some of you may know I've added a new passion to this part of my work and adventures.
I've been working with people who are healing, stressed and going through difficult times. My workshops have developed into a program that enables them to advocate for themselves and loved ones, with the emotional colours they need, safely. The goal is to be able to express themselves and tell their story when they need to and how they want to under the different circumstances that life presents
I am reaching out to different groups that may benefit from this kind of experience and was hoping that you could suggest a few too
As far as I know my program is experiential and unique in the practical areas it covers
Appreciate any suggestions or contacts.
Warmly
Angie
