An incredible expedition and amazing example of what scientific collaboration can achieve. With National AccessAbility Week happening this week, we celebrate this particularly exciting milestone in the development of accessibility tools to remove barriers and empower everyone. Wishing Karolina Pakėnaitė, Leon Lu, and everyone involved, great success!

Karolina Pakėnaitė could become first deafblind woman to summit Everest, with the help of a University of Toronto developed haptic vest. (A link to the article is in the comments) image: deafblindeverestproject

The 37th World Congress of Audiology has come to a close. It's been a great few days of academic and professional learning, exchanges, connection, and collaboration with global leaders and innovators in audiology.

We are also excited to reconnect with many familiar faces to Hearing Research International: Past award recipients and and Grant Review Panel members Dr Navid Shahnaz (Associate Professor of Audiology, University of British Columbia Columbia), Dr Karen Gordon (Senior Scientist, Hospital for Sick Children) co-investigator Dr Kathy Pichora- Fuller (Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto).

We are proud to support their critical research and grateful for their expertise, leadership, and ongoing commitment to supporting innovative research that creates meaningful impact.

Our Director of Research Dr. Rex Banks is enjoying valuable opportunities for learning, collaboration, and connections at the 37th World Congress of Audiology in Seoul, Korea!

Organized by the International Society of Audiology (ISA) and hosted by the Korean Audiological Society (KAS), the WCA 2026 is an extensive scientific programme that facilitates knowledge exchange, networking, and collaboration among audiologists, researchers, and industry professionals worldwide.

Thus far, it's been a rewarding experience to engage with global leaders and innovators in audiology. We are also excited to reconnect with many familiar faces to Hearing Research International: grant review panel members Dr. Astrid van Wieringen (President of the International Society of Audiology), Dr Louise Hickson (Emeritus Professor, University of Queensland in Australia), Dr Claude Alain (Senior Scientist, Rotman Institute at Baycrest) , Paula Folkeard, AuD (Research Manager, University of Western Ontario ), Dr Ryan McCreery (Vice President, Research at Boys Town National Research Hospital). We are grateful to all of Hearing Research International's grant review panelists for voluntarily contributing their time to evaluate research funding applications and ensure we will support research of the highest quality.

We look forward to the next few days full of academic and professional learning, exchanges, connection, and collaboration!
