This week I’m getting ready to travel to Brazil for my grandma’s 90th birthday, woohoo! What a beautiful milestone for a truly special woman. I feel so grateful to have a grandmother who is alive, well, vibrant, and still fully enjoying life.

She has been such a role model for me in many ways. She knows how to truly relax and enjoy the moment, whether it’s sitting and chatting for hours, sharing a meal with family, or simply being present with the people she loves. At the same time, she is always open to adventure, often saying yes to travel with my mom, dinners out, family gatherings, and new experiences.

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that physical aging can sometimes come with a kind of mental aging too — a decreased desire to socialize, connect, explore, and participate in life. But the elders I’ve met who continue to stay engaged with others, nurture relationships, and remain curious about life often seem to age with a more youthful spirit. There is something so inspiring and magnetic about that kind of energy.

I hope I can age that gracefully too. And truly, my grandmother is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Here is a photo of us from a year ago, and she still looks as radiant as ever.

Wishing you, too, much joy, connection, and graceful aging in the years ahead.

If your cholesterol is high, supplements may help more than you think.

Certain plant compounds and fibers can reduce how much cholesterol your body absorbs.

Plant sterols and stanols work by blocking cholesterol absorption in the gut. Soluble fibers like psyllium husk, acacia fiber, and oat beta-glucans can also help lower cholesterol naturally.

Even something as simple as psyllium husk powder taken daily may lower cholesterol by around 7%.

There has been a major shift recently here in British Columbia, Canada, that I think represents a really important step forward for women’s health.

Hormone therapy for perimenopause and menopause is now covered under MSP (public health insurance) in BC, making these treatments far more accessible for many women. Woohoo!

To me, this reflects something deeper than policy change alone. It reflects a growing recognition within mainstream medicine that we now have a much more nuanced understanding of hormone therapy than we did decades ago.

Much of the fear surrounding hormone therapy came from older studies that primarily involved non-bioidentical progesterone and oral estrogen therapies. Over time, the science has evolved, and we now understand that bioidentical progesterone and non-oral bioidentical estrogen therapies have a very different safety profile. For many women, these therapies can be both safe and highly effective for supporting perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms, while also helping protect long-term brain and bone health when appropriately prescribed and individualized.

One important detail to know is that not every product is covered equally. For example, Vagifem vaginal estrogen is not covered, while Vemixxy is. Coverage depends on the specific formulation and brand. In general, for residents of B.C. with MSP coverage, all that is needed is a prescription from a medical doctor or nurse practitioner.

I truly see this as progress. Women’s hormone health has historically been overlooked, minimized, or approached with fear. It feels meaningful to witness this growing shift toward more informed, evidence-based, and supportive care for women during the hormonal transitions of life.
What are your current thoughts on hormone therapy?

Hair thinning often feels sudden.

But in many cases, the changes start slowly over time.

One of the most common reasons is pattern hair loss. Genetics can play a role, but your metabolism, nutrition, and hormones matter too.

Low protein intake, not eating enough healthy fats, and insulin resistance can all make hair loss worse.

Hair thinning is not always “just aging.”

Your hormones, scalp health, and nutrient levels can all play a role in why your hair is changing.

An unhealthy scalp environment, harsh products, excess oil, or irritation can affect hair growth over time.

Your body also needs the right building blocks for healthy hair.
Magnesium, zinc, vitamin D, vitamin C, collagen, and protein all matter more than most people realize.

Have you noticed more hair falling out lately?

Your ponytail feels thinner.
Your part is getting wider.
And nothing seems to help.

Hair loss is often connected to deeper hormone imbalances.

A diet high in sugar and ultra-processed foods can increase insulin resistance, which may affect DHT and hormone balance. Poor sleep also keeps the body in a chronic stress state, making healthy hair growth harder to support.

These last few days have felt interesting and reflective. Sometimes life seems to throw us curveballs just to see whether we are truly paying attention. One moment we feel in the flow, and the next an obstacle appears in our path. In those moments, we have a choice: do we stay connected to the flow while navigating the challenge, or do we resist it and exhaust ourselves trying to push over, under, or around it?

What I continue to learn is that many of life’s challenges cannot be bypassed. We need to move through them in order to fully resolve them. And perhaps there is wisdom in allowing both our inner strength and the current of life itself to carry us forward at the same time.

I’m not even sure I can fully explain what I mean, but it’s what has been alive inside of me lately. It feels good to share it with you. My hope is that, in some small way, it may resonate with where you are too.

Feeling tired all the time?
Struggling with belly fat that won’t budge?
Digestive issues showing up more often lately?

These can all be signs of chronic inflammation in the body — even when your bloodwork looks “normal.”

Inflammation can affect how your cells produce energy, how your hormones function, and how your gut works day to day.
