Naiya is a playful 10-year-old whose adventurous spirit shines at Easter Seals Ontario’s Family Camp!

Living with cerebral palsy and requiring support with daily mobility and self-care, Naiya has found a place where accessibility means freedom to fully participate.
“We don’t have to decide which activities she can or can’t do,” says her mom, Vanessa. “She can participate in the ones she wants. And it’s really nice that the other kids, including siblings, are all so great with each other.”

At camp, Naiya gets to explore activities at her own pace and on her own terms. Last summer, she and Vanessa returned to Camp Merrywood excited to reconnect with friends and jump back into some of their favourite activities — sailing, squash, and peaceful canoe rides.

Swipe to see some of their favourite moments from last summer at Camp Merrywood! ⬇️

When Rowan was just a toddler, his mom Lisa imagined what the future might hold. “Wouldn’t it be great if one day Rowan grew up to become an Easter Seals ambassador?” she wondered.

Years later, that dream became reality. In 2026, 16-year-old Rowan was named the Easter Seals PEI Ambassador.

Rowan, who has Down syndrome, is known for his warm, magnetic personality. He’s genuine, loving, and makes friends everywhere he goes. His energy is infectious—you can’t help but smile when he’s around.

Rowan loves music and dancing and has been part of a hip hop group for the past three years. He’s also a proud member of the Joy Riders, where he enjoys horseback riding. As Rowan’s father says, “we focus on Rowan’s abilities rather than his disabilities.”

But one of Rowan’s favourite places is camp. At Easter Seals Camp Gencheff, Rowan attends every day of the week during the summer, building confidence, friendships, and independence in a place where he truly belongs.

Swipe to see Rowan's favourite moments captured on Camp Gencheff last year, including his very special birthday celebration. ⬇️

Did you know that over 8 million Canadians live with a disability? That’s 1 in 4 people across the country.

For many, the cost of living with a disability can be overwhelming. In fact, an estimated 1.6 million Canadians with disabilities cannot afford the essential equipment and medications they need to live independently and thrive.

That’s where Easter Seals steps in. Through vital programs and services—including financial support for assistive technology, training and education, rehabilitative and occupational therapy, inclusive sport and recreation, and accessible summer camps—Easter Seals is helping to remove barriers and create opportunities every day.

Together, we can build a more accessible and inclusive Canada for everyone.
