Congratulations Keegan and Tayelyn on their new addition 💙 As a child, Keegan was diagnosed with leukemia and his life was saved by a stem cell transplant from his little brother’s preserved cord blood. That experience shaped everything. Today, Keegan is healthy, married, and a new dad himself. When it came time to welcome his own baby girl, banking her cord blood was never a question.

Myth: You have to choose between delayed
cord clamping and banking cord blood.
Fact: Many families do both. Delaying cord clamping for about 30-60 seconds doesn’t significantly reduce the stem cells available for collection. Longer delays may lower the volume, so timing matters - which is why having a conversation with your
provider early is key. Your care team can help you build a birth plan that works for your priorities - so one choice
doesn’t have to come at the cost of another. Clearing up myths like this one is exactly what Cord Blood Awareness Month is for. What questions do you have about delayed cord blood banking? Drop them below ⬇️

Cord blood 101! It’s Cord Blood Awareness Month (CBAM), so we’re starting at the beginning🤍

After your baby is born, blood remains in the umbilical cord and placenta. That blood is rich in newborn stem cells that can be collected, processed, and preserved for potential future use.

The collection itself is:
💙Quick
💙Non-invasive for mom and baby
💙Designed not to interfere with your birth experience

After delivery, the sample is transported to a lab, processed, and stored.

One simple moment💙

To date, the CooperSurgical owned laboratory where Insception Lifebank’s samples are stored has successfully released more than 800 cord blood units planned for use to families, helping advance the possibilities of newborn stem cells for both established treatments and experimental uses in regenerative medicine. Swipe to see how these precious cells were intended for use.

Established transplant and experimental regenerative uses

A remarkable 83 percent of all cord blood releases from the CooperSurgical lab were intended for use in experimental regenerative medicine treatments, supporting participation in regulated clinical trials and investigational protocols. This highlights the potential role of newborn stem cells in the future of medicine.

Established uses in transplant medicine

Seventeen percent of releases from the CooperSurgical lab were intended for an FDA-approved use, primarily as a treatment for cancers and blood disorders.

Experimental uses in regenerative medicine

Brain injuries and developmental disorders were the most common reasons for releases planned for use in experimental regenerative medicine treatments.

A resource for the family

According to the CooperSurgical lab releases, autologous uses (a child’s own cord blood) are more common in experimental regenerative medicine treatments, while allogeneic uses (donor source of cord blood) are more commonly observed in transplant medicine.
