Two bodies, one shared journey. 🤍✨
There is something incredibly special about a synchronous healing session. Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are a massive team effort between mom and baby, so it only makes sense to support their recovery together!
Osteopathic manual therapy is incredibly gentle and non-invasive, making it a beautiful way to align both mama and little one at the same time. Here is how this dynamic duo benefits from a joint session: For Mama 🤱
Postpartum Realignment: Helps the pelvis, spine, and ribs gently transition back into place after carrying and delivering a baby.
Relief from “Nursing Neck”: Targets the upper back, shoulders, and neck tension that comes from endless hours of feeding, rocking, and carrying.
Nervous System Regulation: Gives a tired mom a rare, much-needed moment to down-regulate her nervous system and reset.
For Baby 👶
Releasing Birth Tension: Eases any structural compressions or physical stress left over from labor and delivery (whether it was a long labor, fast birth, or C-section).
Feeding & Digestion Support: Gentle work around the neck, jaw, and cranial bones can improve latch mechanics, while abdominal work can help soothe colic, reflux, and gassiness.
Better Sleep & Relaxation: Just like adults, babies hold tension. Releasing it helps calm their nervous system, often leading to a much happier, deeper sleep.
When mom and baby heal together, they regulate together. There is nothing quite like watching a little one completely relax on the treatment table right alongside their favorite person.

👐 Treat & Educate: Why I talk through every treatment.
Ever wonder what’s going on during an osteopathic treatment for your little one? 🤔 Let’s pull back the curtain!
When a baby is on my table, my hands are busy assessing and gently releasing tension—but my voice is just as active. I make it a priority to explain exactly what I’m feeling and why I’m doing a specific technique to the parents in real-time.
Here is why treating and educating simultaneously is so important to me:
• Empowerment: Knowledge is power. When you understand your baby’s body, you feel more confident as a parent.
• Peace of Mind: Gentle osteopathic movements can look subtle. Explaining the anatomy behind the treatment helps you see the profound impact of the work.
• Home Care Connection: When you understand the “why,” it’s much easier to implement helpful at-home stretches or positioning tips I recommend.
An informed parent is a baby’s best advocate. Together, we make a great team for your little one’s health and comfort! 👶

Good vibrations only! 🌟
Today we’re highlighting a session with the wonderful , where we’re using a vibration plate to help this social kiddo level up her motor skills.
Why use a vibration plate in OT?
✨ Improved Body Awareness: The gentle stimulus helps kids feel where their body is in space.
✨ Core Strengthening: Standing on a moving surface engages those important stabilizer muscles.
✨ Focus & Coordination: Balancing while aiming for the basket adds a layer of fun (and effective!) challenge.
Ira is crushing her goals one toss at a time! 🏀💪

Healing Beyond the Surface: C-Section Scar Recovery 🌿
Did you know that C-section recovery extends far beyond the initial weeks of wound closure?
While the surface may appear healed, the underlying layers of fascia and connective tissue can remain restricted for months—or even years—longer. This can lead to persistent tightness, “pulling” sensations, or areas of numbness and hypersensitivity.
At Footprints Therapy, we use an integrative approach to support your body’s natural remodeling process:
📍 Acupuncture with our Naturopathic Doctors Using the “Surrounding the Dragon” technique, we stimulate circulation and tissue signaling directly around the scar to reduce density and improve local sensation.
👐 Osteopathic Manual Therapy Our practitioners focus on the structural side, releasing fascial restrictions and restoring mobility to the abdominal wall so your scar moves with you, not against you.
Why a combined approach?
Because recovery is both mechanical and physiological. By addressing the structural tension and the internal healing processes simultaneously, we help you regain comfort and function in your core.
Is this for you? Whether your C-section was six weeks ago or six years ago, it is never too late to improve tissue health. If you’re experiencing pulling, numbness, or discomfort during exercise, we’re here to help.

👶 Is your baby always looking one way? 👶
Have you noticed your little one consistently tilting their head to one side, or perhaps they have a strong preference for looking in only one direction—especially while sleeping?

It might be Torticollis, a common but very treatable condition where the neck muscles (specifically the SCM) become tight or overactive.

🚩 Signs to watch for:
A persistent head tilt or limited neck rotation.
A preference for looking in one direction.
A flat spot developing on one side of the head (Plagiocephaly).

Difficulty with tummy time or rolling in both directions.

🩺 How Physiotherapy helps:
Early intervention is key! Starting treatment before 3 months can often help avoid the need for corrective helmets. Our team at Footprints Therapy provides:

Custom Stretches: To lengthen tight muscles and restore range of motion.

Strengthening: To balance weak muscles and support gross motor milestones like sitting and crawling.

Positioning Education: Tips for sleep and play to reduce time in “containers” like swings and car seats.

✨ Don’t wait! If you suspect your baby has a neck preference, an early assessment can make all the difference in their development.

🏗️ Navigating the Path to Progress!
Ever wonder what a “day at the office” looks like for our amazing kiddos? It looks a lot like this! 🧗‍♂️✨
Today we’re highlighting this incredible obstacle course designed to challenge the body and the brain in all the right ways. Occupational Therapy with at Footprints isn’t just about play; it’s about building the fundamental skills for independence.
Why an obstacle course?
We’re working on three big pillars of physical development:
• Balance: Finding that steady center while navigating uneven surfaces—like our colorful stepping stones! ⚖️
• Proprioception: That’s a fancy word for “body awareness.” It helps us understand where our limbs are in space, whether we’re crawling through a tunnel or stepping over a hurdle. 🧠🧍‍♂️
• Core Strengthening: Every move you see requires a strong “trunk” to stay upright and move with intention. A strong core is the foundation for almost every daily activity! 💪
Watching our friends gain confidence with every step is the best part of what we do. Go team! 👣

SHE’S ON THE MOVE! 👣🏃‍♀️
There is nothing quite like the moment a child finds their “go” button! 🌟 We are bursting with pride for this little superstar who just reached a massive milestone: crawling for the very first time! Every inch forward is a huge win, and it’s a beautiful reminder of the power of persistence (and a lot of cheering!).
Through a collaborative approach here at Footprints Therapy, our Physiotherapy and Osteopathy teams have been working together to help her build the strength, coordination, and confidence she needs to explore her world. 🧩✨
Watching her connect those movements and take off across the mat is why we love what we do. Go, girl, go! The world is officially your playground now. 🌎💖

The Sacred Spiral: Why the Way We Are Born Matters 🌀
Birth is not a passive event for a baby; it is their first great masterpiece of movement.
The Spiral of Birth is a natural, rotational journey the baby takes through the birth canal. This isn’t just about “getting out”—it’s a vital process for their physical and neurological foundation.
What is happening during the spiral?
• Fascial Integration: As the baby rotates, the pressure of the birth canal helps “wring out” and integrate the fluids within the fascia (the connective tissue wrapping every muscle and organ).
• Cranial Molding: The spiraling movement allows the cranial bones to shift, overlap, and settle properly, stimulating the central nervous system.
• Primitive Reflexes: This journey “wakes up” the baby’s brain, preparing them for breathing, sucking, and moving.
The Impact of Intervention
When a birth happens very quickly, or via C-section, forceps, or vacuum extraction, the baby is often deprived of this natural spiraling sequence.
• The Result? Without that rotational “reset,” babies can hold significant tension in their bodies.
• The Long-term View: This stored tension can affect their nursing latch, sleep patterns, and even their long-term growth and development.
Watching this baby move through these patterns now is their way of finishing the story—integrated movement is the key to a settled, thriving body.

Big Milestones on Three Wheels! 🚲✨
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of catching your first breeze on a bike! Today was a huge day at Footprints Therapy as this determined little guy took his very first ride.
Pedaling might look simple, but it actually requires a complex mix of coordination, core strength, and bilateral integration. Our physiotherapy sessions focus on building those foundational skills so that “first-ride” magic can finally happen!
Why we love bike riding in PT:
• Strengthens leg muscles (quads and glutes for the win!)
• Improves cardiovascular endurance
• Boosts confidence and independence
• Encourages motor planning and steering control
Watching our kiddos hit these milestones is exactly why we do what we do. Go, buddy, go! 👣💨
