For the past eight months Carrie has been volunteering with VHA’s Safer Spaces: Hoarding Support program. As a semi-retired professional home organizer, she knows first hand the impact a decluttered and safer living space can have on both mental and physical health.
Working with an experienced volunteer organizing coach, like Carrie, can help make the emotionally stressful task of decluttering easier to manage. Her compassionate and supportive approach can make a real difference with the clients she works with.
“I really enjoy hearing the memories and stories connected to clients’ items,” says Carrie. “Sometimes, when the story can be heard, it helps them be able to let go of an item so it can find a new home with someone else.”
When asked if she would recommend volunteering at VHA, her answer is an easy one. “VHA is a wonderful community with great programs to support people in different ways. Have a look at their programs and see if your skills and interests might fit one of them.”
