For Marion and her family, being able to receive palliative care at home meant comfort, familiarity and the support of a dedicated care team every step of the way. From nursing and PSW support to equipment, symptom management and guidance for her daughter Suzanne, the team helped make it possible for Marion to remain at home surrounded by the people, pets and place she loved.

Read Marion and Suzanne’s story and discover how compassionate, coordinated home care can support both clients and their families during life’s most difficult moments:

A decline in personal hygiene isn't always a normal part of aging. It can be an early sign of underlying physical, cognitive or mental health challenges. If you’ve noticed an aging loved one having difficulty keeping up with their typical self-care, it’s important to approach the change with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment.

Learn what to watch for, how to approach the conversation with compassion, and when it may be time to seek additional support:

For patients with complex care needs, going home after a hospital stay can make a meaningful difference. But getting there safely requires the right care, coordination and support.

For five years, the NYCARES program has brought together North York General, home care and community teams to provide personalized care to patients in their own homes.

From nursing and personal support to rehabilitation, pharmacy and primary care, NYCARES demonstrates what’s possible when health care teams work together to meet the needs of patients and their families.

The future of health care is not just about using AI. It’s about using the right AI.

At VHA Home HealthCare, we’re taking a practical, responsible approach to AI by identifying specific challenges and choosing the right solution for each one.

From using AI to streamline recruitment, to piloting AI scribes that could reduce documentation time for care providers, to developing our own ChartCoach solution to improve nursing documentation, we’re exploring how technology can support better care and stronger experiences for clients, families and our teams.

And innovation doesn’t happen without oversight. VHA’s AI, ethics and data governance committees help ensure our AI solutions are implemented responsibly, securely and transparently.

For the past five years Zenebework has been a PSW at VHA. During her time caring for clients, her philosophy has centred on one thing: love. “I love my work,” she explains. “I love my clients and they love me.” She’s even had a client where the dog loved her so much it would cry after she left!

Her love also extends to the rest of her team including her supervisor and coordinator who are always there to support her when she needs it.

For Zenebework, working in a job she loves is why she choses to work for VHA and why she recommends it to others. To learn more about what makes VHA so special, visit the careers section of our website: https://www.vha.ca/careers/
