Arugula is closely related to radishes, kale and cauliflower. This spicy little leaf appears bitter to some, while for others, it has a peppery-mustardy flavor.

Arugula offers many health benefits such as weight control, lowering risk of cancer, helping to keep your bones healthy and improving your eyesight. Munch a bunch!

Despite their small size, chia seeds are full of important nutrients. They are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants, and they provide fiber, iron, and calcium. Omega-3 fatty acids help raise HDL cholesterol, the "good" cholesterol that protects against heart attack and stroke.

* For better nutrient absorption, freshly grind chia seeds and soak in milk, water or yogurt overnight in the fridge before consumption.

Your favourite music provides a "dose" of health benefits for you!

When we talk about medications, we ask about dose: how many milligrams, how often.

With music, the numbers are fuzzier, but patterns are emerging.

Across studies, common “doses” that worked were:

Stress and blood pressure: ~20–60 minutes of calming music, most days of the week, for at least 2–4 weeks.

Sleep: 30–45 minutes of relaxing music nightly at bedtime for 2+ weeks.

Depression and anxiety: 1–2 structured music therapy sessions per week, plus self‑directed listening, over 8–12 weeks.

Cognitive benefits in older adults: 30–60 minutes of active music‑making (choir, instruments) several times per week.

This excellent article details the real benefits for us, our animals and even for our plants!!

Our seasonal warning! The Giant Hogweed looks similar to the Queen Anne's Lace.
Be aware of the Giant Hogweed when on your trail walks!

The clear watery sap of Giant hogweed contains toxins that can cause severe dermatitis (inflammation of the skin). You can get severe burns if you get the sap on your skin and the skin is then exposed to sunlight.
Symptoms occur within 48 hours and consist of painful blisters. Purplish scars may form that last for many years. Eye contact with the sap has been reported (in the media and by various web sites) to cause temporary or permanent blindness.
Coming in contact with Cow parsnip and Wild parsnip can cause similar reactions.

*If you have Giant hogweed on your property, it is recommended that you hire a professional exterminator to safely remove and dispose of it.

*If you think you have Giant hogweed on your property or if you see it in your community please call the Invading Species Hotline at 1-800-563-7711 or report your sighting online.
You will be asked to send in photos for identification. Do not collect parts of the plant for identification.
