UTSC Pre-Dental Society

It will provide members with insight into the everyday life of a dentist. UPDS will also aim to build a community of prospective Dentistry students at UTSC.

The purpose of UTSC Pre-Dental Society will be to enrich the lives of pre dental students by providing knowledge and opportunities relating to the application and preparation processes for the graduate program of Dentistry. The UTSC Pre-Dental Society will enhance the educational, social, and cultural environment of the University of Toronto Scarborough by providing networking opportunities with both dentists and dentistry students, seminars and potentially discounted DAT prep materials.

Curious about dental school and the life of a dental student?

Well, look no further! UPDSS is hosting a Dental Student Panellist event on Thursday, March 7th, 7-8:30 PM on Zoom where we will have 3 dental students from UofT, Western Schulich, and UBC who can give you first-hand insight into their dental journey, dental school applications, dental interviews, etc!

Did we also mention that ALL of these students are UTSC alumni? Ask about how to get involved in UTSC, what courses they took, GPA, etc! This is really the best event for UTSC pre-dental students!

This is one of our last panellist events this semester and you definitely do not want to miss the opportunity to ask any burning questions you have to dental students who were in your position not too long ago! Spots are limited so don't wait!

🪥🦷Welcome to the 4th Extracting Wisdom series!🦷🪥

Routine professional dental care is very important 😁 but can also be very expensive💰. We wanted to share some resources for getting Dental care funding both as a UTSC student and for those you may know in your family. Links to these resources will be shared in the linktree. Please see these resources for additional information. 🌐 ℹ️

🦷🪙Did you know this year, the Canadian Dental Care Plan is finally launching! First beginning in Dec 2023 for seniors aged 87 and over. This is a federally delivered plan to provide funding to families with an adjusted net income of less than $90,000. Additionally, those applying must not have access to dental insurance. This plan will be rolled out in phases to different demographics with eligibility for all Canadians by 2025. To find more information about this plan and what it covers, see the link in the link tree.

🦷🪙The Canadian Dental Benefit is now available! Introduced in Dec 2022 for children under 12 who do not have dental insurance. This benefit aids parents and guardians who earn an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000. This is a direct, tax-free benefit payment that is open for application until June 30, 2024.

🦷🪙All current full-time UTSC students are automatically enrolled for Greenshield Coverage for both Health and Dental coverage. You have the choice of opting out of this insurance if you already are covered. You are covered from Sept 1st to Dec 31st in the Fall and Jan 1st to Aug 31st in the Winter semester. You can access the dental clinic found in the student center. There are some procedures such as restorations, implants, and sleep dentistry. A full list can be found in the links provided.

Hey there! My name is Hayley and I’m thrilled to join the UPDSS 2023-24 executive team as the marketing coordinator. I am a second-year biochemistry major and I am looking forward to my next few years at UTSC! I have always been interested in dentistry and promoting dental health awareness.
