"I thought I needed to sweat to get rid of my anxiety. I didn't realize how much I just needed to stop."

I’ll never forget the student who said this to me in Vietnam. 🇻🇳
She was in my restorative class, but 20 minutes in, she started doing sun salutations in the front row. Her body didn’t know how to turn off. When I offered her space to move elsewhere, she got all the way to the door before she realized, moving wasn't the medicine she needed. Stillness was.

As we drifted into deeper rest, she started to cry. It wasn’t tears of pain - it was the sound of a nervous system finally being allowed to exhale.

This is why I created the Monthly Rest Ritual. To regulate stress, we’re taught to do more. But the most advanced practice is actually to BE.

If you feel like you "should" be doing more, this is your invitation to do less.

✨ The details:

Starts Mid-April (6 spots already gone!)

90-min live session + recording

Sacred monthly theme & reflection prompts

Sliding scale: $35 - $50 CAD

Cameras are 100% optional - the practice is your sanctuary, not a performance.

Non sleep deep rest (NSDR) is a powerful way to activate your parasympathetic nervous system. Rest is so much more than taking naps. Let this year be the year we embody more rest and care practices ❤

I recently went to spend time with my aunts Hang and Sarah, and little cousins Emma and William, in Kingston 🍂 It was such a nourishing time - on all levels. And so much sticks out for me, but in today’s post I want to share something I can’t stop thinking about.

Something that has been very handy this past week in honoring the range of emotions so many of us are feeling.

We were out on our daily walk. 3-year old Emma was happily skipping down the sidewalk, until she fell and landed hard on the cement. My automatic reaction was to pick her up and say, “you’re alright, Emma” to try to ease her.

What did her mom, my aunt Sarah, do? She SAT DOWN ON THE SIDEWALK to hug Emma 😭 She stayed on the ground till Emma finished crying. She let her cry and affirmed for her that, that must’ve been a scary fall, it was okay for her to feel scared and hurt afterwards.

I was left speechless. I have never seen a parent respond that way with a child. Anytime I fell as a kid, I was yelled at for being careless, to stop crying, and told I was OK.

It actually made me uncomfortable to witness, I didn’t know what to do, it was so unfamiliar. AND at the same time it was so healing to witness.

How am I using this to support myself right now?

I have started to visualize myself like my aunt Sarah whenever I notice my feels are feeling. I imagine myself get down on the sidewalk and hug that version of me who is scared, angry, hurting, grieving and feeling hopeless.

The world feels like its burning (and in many ways it is), and that’s NOT alright. We shouldn’t expect ourselves to simply be okay, to have no feelings about what’s happening to humanity.

Invitation to support your feelings like a mother would a small child who just fell.

Get on the floor with them. Be that supportive, loving witness. Give them space to move through you (emotions are energy, they need to be felt). Don’t rush them to simply keep walking.

Sitting on the sidewalk with you 💛 reminder that we don’t have to deny our suffering, they are portals that can change us, change humanity.

Deep bow of gratitude to my inspiring aunties and baby cousins for sharing so much of their wisdom with me 🙏

Yesterday was a Victoria day! 💁🏻‍♀️ Or as I like to say date with myself day.

Started with a call with my coach - I’m pretty good at coaching myself as it’s a skill I’ve been cultivating for years but to welcome in external support, someone who lovingly and firmly holds you to your highest vision of yourself is seriously magic. Those interactions heal and evolves you in the deepest ways. I was reminded of this yesterday.

Then a delicious lunch and a vegan donut treat 🍩 with a friend.

Followed by three blissful hours at the spa where I got to move through therapeutic water cycles 💦 of Dead Sea pool, cold plunges, aromatherapy steam and sauna rooms, and a hot epsom salt pool. PLUS a Moroccan spice body scrub and glow treatment.

I currently have a self date day every other month or so, but an intention I’m working towards is monthly.

I could list a bunch of reasons as to why I deserve a day like this but something I’m working on is not over justifying because the truth is: if it’s important to me, it’s enough.

Anyone else resonate with over justifying? Finding all the reasons why you deserve things before you do the thing? Working on receiving without the tit or tat transaction? I know it’s sticky and it’s a lot of unlearning, but I see you and I’m right in the process with you!

A way of being that’s important to me is taking care of myself. Of my body. Of my nervous system. Of how I told stress and responsibility in my body and energy.

This is what I anchor into instead of “I do XYZ that’s why I deserve this” transactional experience.

I’ll say it again, if it’s important to you, it’s enough ⚡️ periodt.

Ya girl’s skin, body and nervous system feels SO GOOD (see last pic 😂)

Happy full moon, mid-autumn festival, last days of September, Libra szn ✌️

Not who she was told to be. Or groomed to be. Or thought she should be.

But who she IS. Who she decides to be.

I have this written and posted by my bedroom door so I see it all the time. As a reminder that there will be voices and expectations coming from all the directions, but my job is to be anchored in who I’ve discovered myself to be.

The version of me that lights my own soul on fire ❤️‍🔥 The version of me who looks at herself in the mirror and is damn proud.

And knows that as I continue to live this life, and as life keeps lifeing, I get to shift, evolve and grow and give myself permission to do that, too.

Remember who you are. Learn to discern your own spirit from what you’ve been conditioned to be.

When life gets really full (I’m trying to use this word more intentionally instead of busy), it’s easy for me to get into Doing-mode. Mobilizing mode. Get sh*t done mode. Check things off my to-do list mode.

Some might say this is their life constantly, always stressed, always running, always focused on the next thing. The next fire.

But I know from experience this is how I burn out. When I’m soooo hyper focused on solving, planning and coordinating all the different pieces of life, I get hard and rigid.

So how do I get myself out of that? Yes, meditation, mindfulness, journaling, yoga, breathwork, the gym, all those things help.

But, at the core of all those practices? Is something deeper. Is the actual purpose of using all those tools:

To let love in, every single day ❤️

To welcome it, and embrace it and let it live within me.

To be present with it.

For me this shows up daily as:
- being compassionate with myself (my thoughts, my self talk)
- putting the to do list down, knowing that there’s time to do it, it doesn’t all have to happen NOW
- letting people help me
- stepping back from being the ONLY one responsible, and splitting leadership with others
- trusting others when they lead, they’ve got their part, I’ve got mine
- asking for help
- laughing and finding sparkles of joy and smiles amongst the chaos
- actively softening my body so love can land
- hugs, lots of grounding hugs (aka at least 3 deep breaths, don’t hug me if this ain’t how you hug 😂)
- practicing patience: receiving it from others, extending it to others

To me this is letting love in.

If we don’t do this now, then when will we?

Your to do list is always going to be there. Work is always going to be there. Your responsibilities and commitments will grow and change.

So if this is not an active and intentional priority now, something else will always come first.

Consider what it means for you to let love in. How does it show up on a daily basis? How do you respond? Do you shut the door when it knocks and go about your busy-ness? Or do you actually invite it in? How do you WANT to respond? How does it feel in your body? Are you scared? Nervous? Do you relax and receive?

Bahahaha 😂😂😂 this gave me a good chuckle.Exhale as you bend forward. Inhale to come up ✌️

Ever have one of those days where you feel so much joy, it feels kinda vulnerable and you wanna cry? Yeah. I'm having one of those days.

May we feel so deeply we let ourselves be emotional.
May we keep our hearts open.
May we find joy, even when (especially when), there's also so much heartache in the world.
May we hold all of our human experiences with care and compassion.

❤❤❤

For me, living deeply isn't about being happy all the time.

It's about honouring that joy and suffering co-exist. That you can't have one without the other.

It's about learning to live so deeply in the moment that you get overwhelmed with gratitude.

It's about letting yourself feel.

It's about keeping your heart open even when you're afraid to get hurt, even when it's pretty scary.

It's about finding ease and peace with what is.

It's about being kind. To yourself, and others. When the world teaches you to not be.

❤❤❤

Lately, I've been thinking about how sometimes it's EASIER to be hard. To close ourselves off. To protect ourselves. To distract and numb ourselves.

But then I think about how protecting ourselves might seem like the safe option in the short term; but is that how we really want to live?

When we protect ourselves from hurt, we also close the door to deep joy.

This doesn't mean we get carried away; that's why we have tools like mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, somatic practices, movement.

All of these tools have allowed me to truly tap into feeling. And I got 6 planets in Capricorn sooooooo iykyk 😂

I would rather feel so deeply - the joy, the pain - than to not feel at all.

If you're looking for mindfulness tools and practices to live more intentionally, to feel more joy in your life and body, to honour life as it is, let's work together.

My books are open for 1:1 client work including private coaching sessions, private breathwork sessions, custom meditation sessions, and personalized mindfulness sessions. DM me if you're curious or have questions, always happy to chat ❤️
