Heart burn/acid reflux is caused by stomach acid flowing up the esophagus. It is commonly caused by dietary factors (large meals, greasy, fatty, spicy or acidic foods, caffeine), stress, smoking, alcohol, pregnancy, obesity, and certain medications (NSAIDs).
