“Did I love enough?”

~ My Mother
Yolande M. Whiten McTighe

Yesterday marked the first year anniversary of my beloved Mother’s passing.

To honour the occasion, I spent the day with my dear bonus Dad.

We grabbed some Tim Horton sandwiches and sat lakeside, taking in the magnificence of creation.

Just as she and my dad would often do.

We later went on a long country drive, looking at the vineyards bursting with Spring’s arrival.

Just as she and my dad would often do.

And finally, we stopped to see the sun setting over a tranquil harbour in a hamlet in Niagara on the Lake.

Just as she and my dad would often do.

There, I meditated in her honour, as the sun kissed the lake’s cheek, with its’ brilliance and love.

Just as She would kiss ours, to say farewell, but never goodbye.

As we parted, a full beautiful moon grabbed our attention and followed us all the way home.

Overjoyed we were, with the serendipity of it all, no path chosen, but quietly led.

No time for tears, just grace and gratitude.

And to your question Mom?

Yes you did, in abundance.

Love endures and it’s the greatest force of all.

Lead your life with love and love will lead the way.

Love never ends.

Heaven truly is a place on earth.

Life is a gift. Open it.™️

“She placed her hand on the pulse of the earth and felt humanity, united in pain and love.” KJWR

And she cried.

Yes, it’s palpable.

No analysis needed.

And we’re all feeling it.

Especially the empaths and highly sensitive people.

We’re being brought to our knees, connected to our core.

Our depth of compassion and respect for the human condition,
rendering us even more human.

United in pain and love.

To gain a reprieve from it all, the other day I went for a walk along the beach and stopped for a while at the Lifeguard Station.

Just to be present and observe.

There, I met another woman and her beloved dog.

“What’s your dog’s name?”, I asked.

“Natcho”, she replied.

“Oh that’s such an original name”, I replied.

“ Thanks”, she replied.

“So, how are you doing”, I asked her?

“Well”, she replied. “I was doing okay up until two weeks ago when all of this all started.”

“I know what you mean” I replied.

“Doesn’t the pandemic and everything we endured for the past two years, seem like a drop in the bucket now?” she asked.

Yes, it truly does, I replied.

“I never knew I was a highly sensitive person or HSP and a true empath, she said. And I’m so angry that I didn’t know it until now.”

“Well”, I replied. “Be gentle with yourself.” “You discovered it when you were supposed to.”

“Well, I guess.” she said.

“Well, besides, I said, you’re not alone. I didn’t until recently either. So I can relate.”

“Well” she asked, “How are we supposed to navigate through all of this”, she asked? It’s all just so horrible.”

I replied, “It’s simple, really. Be kind. It all starts with hello.”

“I guess, she said.” “I just find very few people ever ask the question: “How are you doing?and actually mean it.”

“Well YOU can,” I said smiling.

I believe people are placed in our path for a reason. We just have to be present and simply say hello.

“Thanks she replied. “I really appreciate it and I will.” I hope to see you again.”

“My pleasure”, I replied. “I hope so too.”

“And oh, it’s no coincidence that we met at the Lifeguard Station, is it?” I said upon parting.

She smiled and said, “no it’s not. I never thought of that. Thanks again. I needed this today.”

During our entire conversation that lasted for close to an hour, Natcho sat at my side, guarding me like a coveted new friend.

“She never does that”, she said.

“My lucky day” I said. “Take care.”

Good morning sunshine.

There are mornings where I literally feel pulled out of bed to greet the morning sun. Today was one of them.

With each sunrise comes a new day and a new beginning.

Every day I am humbled by the magnificence of it all and so grateful.

Today and every day, I’m so grateful for the many blessings I have and most importantly, for the moments and the memories shared with those I love.

This Thanksgiving is a difficult one for me as it will be the first without my beloved Mother to celebrate with.

Oh how she enjoyed preparing family dinners and as I reflect on all of them, I smile and can still hear her say laughing, “get out of my kitchen.”

As a cook, the kitchen was her sanctuary. Her meals were always so special likely because her secret ingredient was always love.

Those memories and the loving legacy she left behind, will buoy me up and inspire me to carry her loving kindness forward. Today and every day.

When you can stand strong in your core values and do not allow others to manipulate or influence you, you have met your true self.

Living your life from that place will influence all of your choices and your actions.

It is then when you will know true inner peace.

“You’re eyes are always so full of light”, I would say to my beloved mother, on my frequent visits.

She would turn her head upwards, smile and quietly whisper, “Thank you.”

She exuded positive energy and would often say, I’m so content.

She lived a long and beautiful life and her loving way of living helped her cast that light on others.

My mother always saw the best in others. She forgave often and quickly. She was kind. Loving. Humble Compassionate. Faithful. Devoted. Humorous. Creative. A talented classical pianist. Understanding. A great listener. She always did the right thing. She was love and kindness personified.

She was a true and genuine leader who created a legacy of love. I’ve only come to see her in that full light, after she passed.

I will continue to walk in her footsteps and attempt to cast that loving light upon others. I have a lot of work to do, but I know her soul and her beautiful spirit will carry me, always. She was and always will be, my beloved mother. A true role model.

Love always,
Kimberley
