It's important to be aware of both the benefits and potential side effects of medical cannabis. Each product may cause different types of side effects to occur. Products that contain high amounts of THC are more commonly associated with a higher risk of side effects. 1,2. In particular, products
that are THC-free are associated with fewer side effects. If you experience serious adverse effects, it is recommended to discontinue use of the product and immediately contact your HCP.

With regards to using medical cannabis, in the absence of guidelines, it is recommended that users take a “start low and go slow” approach. This approach allows patients to understand how their body reacts to cannabis. To achieve this, titration methods are used to find the right dose by which users experience therapeutic effects with no or minimal adverse effects. 1,2.

Careful titration permits a more precise determination of the lowest dose that achieves efficacy (e.g., seizure control), and therefore minimizes the risk of dose-dependent side effects. Titration also enables patients to identify the most recent dose that was not associated with adverse effects and to return the patient to the previously prescribed lower dose, should the need arise.
