Scholarship Program Spotlight! 🎓❤️

Meet Mark Wu, a 2026 recipient of the Hodglynn Holsteins Scholarship! Mark will be beginning his studies in science at York University’s Markham Campus, with plans to pursue biology and eventually build a career in genetics research.

For Mark, that goal is deeply personal.

He shares:

“Thanks to your generosity, I can pursue a degree in biology at York University. With this degree, I plan to start a career in genetics research to help others with genetic diseases like mine live better lives.”

The scholarship will help Mark focus on both his studies and personal growth while working toward a future where he can use science to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Congratulations, Mark! 🔬✨ We’re proud to support your journey and grateful to the generous donors who help make post-secondary education more accessible for students with physical disabilities.

Meet Hilary from Camp Merrywood! 🛶❤️

Hilary is 19 years old and this is her 6th year at an Easter Seals Ontario camp, spending 5 sessions at Merrywood and 1 at Woodeden in 2019!

Hilary’s favourite activity at camp is anything on the water, as she loves the lake! In fact, her favourite memory of camp is from 3 years ago, when on one particularly windless day, staff member Angus got a little creative and tied all 7 sailboats together in a line and took them for a joyride!

What Hilary also loves about camp is the people. She loves getting to meet other campers with similar experiences and spending time with the counsellors who help make each summer so memorable.

Here’s to many more splashing memories on the lake, Hilary! 🫶⛵😊

Meet Tyler from Camp Woodeden! ️🧗🥋❤️

At 32, Tyler has been attending Camp Woodeden since he was 7 years old, first attending family camp and then camping independently since he was 18. This year, he’s enjoying a bit of both!

There’s a lot Tyler loves about camp. Some favourites include singing along at campfire, taking on the ropes course and joining in therapeutic martial arts at Hero Circle, which he describes as both “great” and “fun.” This session also brought plenty of family moments, from making tie-dye and playing croquet to tackling the high ropes course with his mom.

For Tyler and his family, coming back to Woodeden is about more than the activities. It’s a chance to relax, reconnect and spend time with a community of families who understand and can relate to one another’s experiences. After so many years, Tyler’s reason for returning is pretty simple: “I love it here.”

And his advice for anyone considering camp? “Come and experience it” for yourself. 🫶

As Alexander prepares to begin his post-secondary journey in Computer Science, he’s looking ahead with determination, ambition, and a desire to one day support others facing similar barriers.

“This scholarship reinforces what I have always believed, that with hard work, the right support, and the encouragement of people who care, there are no limits to what can be achieved.”

For Alexander, receiving this scholarship is also a reminder that he has a community behind him as he takes this exciting next step.

“Your support reminds me that I am not alone on this journey, and it motivates me to push further, achieve my goals, and someday give back to others who face similar obstacles.”

Meet Albert from Camp Merrywood! ️🏉🎨❤️

Albert is 18 and is back for his second summer at Easter Seals Ontario Family Camp, after visiting us for the first time at 7 years old!

This year, wheelchair rugby has been a favourite. When he’s not on the wheelchair rugby court, Albert loves to show his artistic flair colouring in life skills and showing everyone his drawings at camp!

He also made the most of Family Camp favourites like the Rotary BBQ, live music and family story time.

It’s so special to welcome a camper back after so many years, and we’re so glad Albert got to make a whole new set of Camp Merrywood memories this summer. 🫶🤗
