Learn how to handle newborn sleep before your baby arrives! Just 2 new class dates for the rest of the year:

Thursday November 4th 7:00pm- 8:30pm
Sunday December 12 2:00pm - 3:30pm

Class fee includes a 30 min assessment of your home sleep set up.
Classes are taught by me, a trained sleep consultant, naturopathic doctor and doula and mom to a previously terrible sleeper.

It's official and I am proud to announce that I am now an Isla-Grace trained and certified Baby-Led Sleep and Well-Being Specialist!

What does that all mean? I now offer sleep education and consults for families looking for a holistic, attachment and development based approach. I help families who seek alternatives to "sleep training" and cry-it-out methods. This is suitable for breastfeeding families.

My apporach is baby-led and family-centred:
Baby-led means we give advice based on what is developmentally appropriate for your child.
Family-centred means it's not just about sleep, but also nuturing family relationships and adapting our advice to your unique family situation, needs and environment.

I am a mom to 2 wonderful children, one of whom was a terrible sleeper. I went through all the physical and emotional struggles of trying to follow advice that blamed me for setting up "bad habits" when I was simply following my own instincts. My percieved "failure" at getting my baby to sleep eroded my parenting confidence and increased my anxiety.

I was tricked into thinking that my child's frequent wake ups were the exception when in fact they were very much the norm.

I felt terrible when I finally did the cry-it-out methods only to realize that when those methods didn't work, I put my child and myself through that for nothing.

I've heard these exact same struggles echoed through the stories my clients tell me. This inspired me to seek out ways to help families with sleep and to also change the way we approach sleep as a culture.

I offer Gentle Newborn Sleep Prenatal classes for pregnant families to help you prepare your home and mindset for sleep before your baby arrives.
I also offer private consults to families who are struggling with sleep.

I was surprised to learn that only 30% of pregnant people take a prenatal class. Childbirth is a really physically and emotionally big life event! I can't imagine facing something so important without some form of education to prepare me.

So why is this number so low? There are lots of reasons:

1) Some people are told they don't need to take one (One client told me her OB told her not to bother with a prenatal class or birth plan!! Which is, IMHO, negligent advice)
2) Those who plan to get an epidural don't feel the need to learn comfort measures (even though you might be doing a lot a labouring on your before you can get the epdural)
3) Unable to access prenatal education for various reasons
4) Perception that prenatal education is not helpful (even though research shows that prenatal education has benefits)
5) There may be many more reasons that I haven't thought of

What should a good quality prenatal class do for you?

1) Increase knowledge of what to expect
2) Increase your skills on how to cope
3) Increase your confidence in yourself -- your physical and emotional ability to give birth
4) Increase your knowledge about possible interventions and increase your confidence in being able to discuss your birth choices with your care provider.
