Have you ever felt like you’re doing everything right… and your body still won’t change?
Karlie Holtby - Hormone + Metabolic Nutritionist
There was a moment a few years ago when I realized something didn’t add up.
Like a lot of people during 2020, I lived in stretchy pants and pajamas for a long stretch of time. Life was slower, routines were different, and honestly… hard pants weren’t really required. But eventually life started returning to normal and I had to put real clothes on again. And that’s when it hit me.
None of them fit.
Somewhere along the way I had gained about 20 pounds. But more than the weight, I didn’t recognize myself. I didn’t feel good in my body anymore. And the frustrating part was that I already ate what most people would consider “healthy.” Organic food, whole foods, the things we’re told are the gold standard. I had even been vegan for nearly 10 years, which I believed was the healthiest way to eat at the time.
So I did what most disciplined people do when they want results. I committed.
I took on a 100 day workout challenge. I followed a nutrition plan that a fitness coach had given me years earlier when I had successfully lost 10 pounds. I followed it to the letter. I weighed myself at the beginning but refused to weigh in during the program so I wouldn’t get discouraged. I showed up every day. I was completely 100% compliant.
Breakfast looked like protein pancakes made with a cup of oats, a banana, eggs, and protein powder. Lunch was a salad with chicken. Dinner was protein, vegetables, and rice. Everything was “clean.” Everything was what we’re told is healthy.
One hundred days later I stepped on the scale.
Zero pounds lost.
I remember standing there thinking something must be wrong with me. I was doing everything right. I was working hard. I was disciplined. And my body wasn’t responding. I genuinely thought I was broken.
But what I eventually discovered changed everything.
My body wasn’t broken. My metabolism wasn’t slow. My body was simply confused by the fuel I was giving it.
What I learned was that the pancreas doesn’t really care if the sugar comes from a muffin or a bowl of rice. One cup of rice is roughly the equivalent of about 11 teaspoons of sugar to your bloodstream. That cup of oats in my protein pancakes? Around 15 teaspoons. Add the banana and I was essentially giving myself a morning glucose spike that told my body to store energy, not release it.
I was eating “clean”… but I was constantly triggering insulin.
And when insulin is high, the body cannot easily burn stored fat. It’s a biological safety mechanism. The body holds on.
That discovery sent me down a path of studying metabolism, hormones, ancestral nutrition, and how the human body is actually designed to function. Our DNA is programmed the same way it was thousands of years ago. Our biology hasn’t changed.
Our food has.
The average person today consumes hundreds of grams of "healthy" carbohydrates a day, constantly spiking blood sugar and insulin. Over time the body becomes dysregulated, inflamed, and confused. And then women blame themselves when nothing works.
But the body isn’t the enemy.
When we start eating foods the body and our DNA recognize, and supporting metabolism the way nature intended, something beautiful happens.
The body finally feels safe enough to let go.
This is exactly why I created my Metabolic Reprogramming Reset. It isn’t diet culture. It isn’t counting calories or obsessing over macros. It’s learning the biology of your body so you understand how to nourish it for the rest of your life.
When the body heals, weight loss becomes the byproduct.
And the most beautiful part is that women stop living in fear of food and finally start trusting their bodies again.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing everything “right” and still feel stuck… I see you. And I promise there is a reason.
