Reparenting while actively parenting is double the emotional work.
When you offer your child the unconditional presence, emotional validation, or safety you were denied growing up, two things happen at once:
You get to watch a child move through the world unburdened, confident, and trusting. Their ability to take safety for granted is the ultimate proof that the cycle stops with you.
You realize just how simple and deserved that basic care was and you are forced to mourn the fact that no one provided it for the younger version of you.
Giving your child the experiences you missed doesn’t mean your own inner child’s ache disappears automatically. It means you are holding space for two generations at once: honouring the kid you are raising, and tenderness for the kid you used to be.
Save this post for the days when breaking cycles feels heavy. You are allowed to feel proud and heartbroken at the exact same time.
