How lucky we are that we can get much the same release from a really good laugh as we do from a really good cry.
And laughing’s a lot more fun. 😅 There are so many paths to healing and wellness. What matters, is which way is right for you in any given moment.
I said this on the “Sh #$t That Goes On In Our Heads” podcast and it’s stuck with me ever since — because your nervous system doesn’t really care which way you get there. Tears, laughter — both support your body’s release. Both can offer nervous system support and regulation.
So next time you’re reaching for a good cry, maybe also make room for the friend who makes you laugh until you can’t breathe, the show that makes you cackle alone in your kitchen, or that memory that still gets you every time. (Ha! For more on that front, check out some of our awfully hilarious | award-winning books 📚 😂 moments!!)
No matter how you get there. If it’s right for you, it’s right.
🎧 Had such a great conversation about all this (and about PMDD, shame, and healing outdoors) with Sh!tThatGoesOnInOurHeads on their hilarious, destigmatizing show Sh #$t That Goes On In Our Heads. Our episode is called, “From PMDD to Peace: Heather’s Journey of Therapy, Humor, and Healing”
Check it out!
Ps okay - fave new account that makes me laugh and learn everytime?! My epic cousin Jamie, a Scotsman newly in Canada 🇨🇦 killing it with his commentary - check him out:
