I want to talk about something I see a lot in breathwork culture, and something I intentionally do differently.
There’s often this idea that the more intense your session, the more healing is happening. That if you’re not crying, shaking, or having a breakthrough, you’re not going deep enough.
And I get it. Those moments can feel significant. They are so real and profound.
But intensity does not equal transformation. Not at a nervous system level.
In fact, when we push the system past what it can actually hold by chasing the release, forcing the emotion, waiting for the big moment,we can actually move further into overwhelm. The nervous system doesn’t open under pressure. It braces.
Real change happens in the quieter moments. When you notice the urge to force something and choose to just breathe instead. When you stay with a feeling long enough for it to move on its own. When the body finally feels safe enough to let go of what it’s been holding without you having to make it happen.
That’s the work. Not the big intense breakthroughs, but the staying and allowing the change to come through you and for you.
This is the foundation of everything we do here. 🌿
If you’re curious what breathwork feels like when it’s not about performance or intensity, come breathe with us.
