BC Victims of Homicide (BCVOH) WHAT IS A HOMICIDE SURVIVOR? Homicide survivors are also victims of the crime because they have been indirectly harmed by the murder committed.

BC Victims of Homicide (BCVOH) is an initiative of the British Columbia Bereavement Helpline (BCBH) and is dedicated to the healthy recovery of individuals who are living with the loss of a loved one to homicide. The death of a loved one, whether it is a child, a spouse, a parent, a sibling or a close friend, is an extremely difficult experience for anyone to endure. HOMICIDE GRIEF AND THE HEALING

PROCESS

Family and friends are harmed by the loss of a loved one under horrific circumstances and the difficulties resulting from the loss. Homicide, because it is the deliberate result of another human being’s actions, and the uniqueness of the unnatural death of a loved one brings about various sensitive issues such as guilt, fear, shame, anger, sorrow, revenge, suicidal tendencies and regret. It is only by sharing and listening to others who have experienced a similar loss that victims are able to have their feelings truly validated.
