This local patient in his mid-40s was experiencing thinning that extended from the hairline to the crown. During his pre-operative consultation with Dr. Sood, it was determined that the primary objective would be to restore the hairline and frontal zone while working as far back as possible into the mid-scalp. It was estimated that approximately 4,000 grafts would be both possible and necessary to achieve a substantial improvement. A smaller second procedure could be considered in the future should he wish to increase density in the crown.
His hair caliber was slightly above average, while his donor density and overall donor supply were assessed as average.
On Day 1, 2,000 grafts were harvested, consisting of 300 single-hair grafts, 1,492 doubles, and 208 grafts containing 3–4 hairs. Day 2 yielded an additional 2,000 grafts, consisting of 300 singles, 1,457 doubles, and 243 grafts containing 3–4 hairs. A 0.85 mm hybrid punch was used for all extractions.
The procedure proceeded smoothly on both days, with excellent ease of extraction and placement. At his first post-operative hair wash the day after the procedure, all grafts were intact and the recipient area was healing exceptionally well.
