The city’s last long weekend of summer. Ship Point is quieter than usual, the light’s a little softer, and there’s a feeling in the air that everyone can sense, summer’s on its way out. One more stretch of warm days on the harbour before fall settles in, before the rhythm of the city shifts and the season turns. A good excuse to slow down, breathe a little deeper, and make the most of the days. ⚫️⬛️

This approval had more hurdles than we could dream up. What got us through them was great people, the great people at the Vancouver Maritime Museum, the great supporters, the great staff and planners at Vancouver City Hall, and a mayor and council who see and believe in the value.

Nell Nancy Ayotte — Artist Residency at HAVN 🖼️

We’re honoured to welcome Nell Nancy Ayotte as the second artist in residence at HAVN. Starting today, Tuesday May 26th, Nell brings a maximalist, mystic world into our space. Work that invites guests to dissolve, drift, and gaze back at themselves through the eyes of her open-faced figures.

Drawing from ancestral ties, art of yesteryear, and the ethereal, Nell’s practice reflects the nature of community, fluidity, and the self. A lunar world built from her home studio, where feminine opulence and tenderness reside. Her paintings will live throughout the space, shifting how presence settles, how stillness expands, how the room begins to look back.

Rooted in experiences both lived and imagined, Nell’s work asks little and offers much. An invitation to pause inside the painting. To soften. To meet yourself somewhere quieter than thought.

This continues HAVN’s Artist Residency Series. A celebration of local artistry and the creative spirit that lives along our coast. ⚫️⬛️

Built in Tacoma during the spring of ’43. Serving its time in San Francisco, Pearl Harbour, and eventually returning to the west coast. This US Navy-commissioned barge, now our beloved HAVN, has been catching sunsets for eighty years. 1943 Built | 2023 Refit ⚫️⬛️
