If you spend enough time in the wellness industry, you quickly notice that things come in and out of fashion.

Juice everything. Cut the carbs. Eat more fat. Do more cardio. Stop doing cardio. Build lean muscle with yoga. Actually, yoga doesn’t build enough muscle, so save it for your rest days.

The advice changes constantly. What is celebrated one year is dismissed the next.

But yoga was never meant to be another fitness trend. These practices have endured for thousands of years, not because they promise us a particular body, but because they offer us something far more profound.

A way to truly understand ourselves and the world we walk in.To cultivate awareness, discipline, compassion, and the courage to act on what we uncover from a genuine place of purpose.

Yoga is not simply about becoming stronger for our own sake. It asks us what we will do with the strength we cultivate. How we will show up for others. How we will respond to suffering. What responsibility we have to the world around us.

And while yoga Āsana can certainly build physical strength, reducing it to a question of muscle development misses so much of what these practices have to offer.

Announcement 📣

We are thrilled to announce the opening of our second location, MĀ Seaside Yoga, coming this winter to Cadboro Bay!

From the beginning, we have felt that MĀ is something greater than a physical space. It is its own living, breathing entity, shaped and sustained by the people who gather within it.

As we move along our individual paths toward greater health and well-being, we believe one of the most important things we can cultivate is community. Our wellness is deeply connected to our relationships, to our sense of belonging, and to the simple experience of being seen and known by others.

Sometimes community is the person whose mat has been beside yours for years. You may hardly know each other, yet there is comfort in their familiar presence. Sometimes it’s the person who embraces you in the lobby when life feels heavy, or someone who sits with you over a cup of tea and reminds you that you are not alone.

These seemingly small moments of connection are anything but small. They are part of what nourishes us, what carries us through difficult seasons, and what makes a space feel like home.

We have always believed that wellness is not something we pursue entirely on our own. We need one another.

As MĀ grows, our greatest hope is not simply to create more space for yoga practice, but to create more opportunities for living it. Connection, belonging, and meaningful relationships can be found within the wake of a daily practice.

We feel incredibly fortunate to be expanding into another beautiful neighbourhood of our city. We look forward to meeting new faces, welcoming new friendships, and perhaps being a little closer to home for some of the familiar faces who have been part of MĀ for years.

To everyone who has practiced with us, shared a conversation, offered a hug, made a friend, or simply brought their presence into our spaces: thank you. You are what makes MĀ what it is.

We are so grateful for the community that has grown around us, and so excited to see how it continues to unfold.

MĀ Seaside is currently under construction and its doors will be open soon!

In Ayurveda, autumn is associated with Vāta: the qualities of air and space. As the days become cooler and drier, we turn toward warmth, regular rhythms and comforting food.

Enjoy this simple soup recipe from Sarada and check out her upcoming Ayurvedic cooking workshop below 🍂

Sarada’s Fall Lentil & Squash Soup

Ingredients:

• ½ cup red lentils
• 1 cup butternut squash, cubed
• 1 carrot, chopped
• A handful of spinach or kale
• 1 tsp grated ginger
• ½ tsp cumin
• ½ tsp coriander
• ¼ tsp turmeric
• 1 tbsp ghee or olive oil
• 4 cups water or vegetable broth
• Salt to taste

Warm the ghee or oil in a pot and gently sauté the ginger and spices. Add the lentils, squash, carrot and broth, then simmer for 25–30 minutes. Stir in the greens during the last few minutes.

Enjoy it warm, seated, and with a little room to pause.

Come into the kitchen with Sarada

Join Sarada Pranav for Ayurvedic Autumn Kitchen, an afternoon of cooking, learning and sharing a meal together. Explore seasonal ingredients, warming spices and simple Ayurvedic principles you can bring into your own kitchen.

You’ll leave with recipes and a small jar of digestive spice blend to continue the practice at home.

Saturday, October 31
2–4:30 pm | $81

We’d love to share the table with you. Book through the MĀ app or our website https://www.mawellnessandyoga.ca/workshops/

The Heart of MĀ | Meet Andrea Ting-Luz ❤️

When we first opened MĀ, the dream was to create a space where yoga could integrate with other wellness modalities, bringing movement, healing, learning, creativity, and connection together under one roof.

Andrea epitomizes that dream so creatively, warmly, and lovingly ❤️

Andrea first found yoga in 2001 after years of dance and began teaching in 2011. Since then, her path has expanded through Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, Restorative Yoga, mythology, storytelling, sequencing, leadership, and teacher mentorship.

Today, Andrea brings that same curiosity and embodied approach to her work as a qualifying counsellor, having recently completed her Master’s in Counselling Psychology.

Her upcoming Sacred Sleep Virtual Series is a beautiful expression of these worlds coming together. From the coziness of our own sacred spaces, Andrea will guide us through evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), alongside somatic practices, breathwork, Restorative Yoga, and Yoga Nidra. Together, we’ll explore our relationship with sleep, create supportive daily rituals, and learn practices to help calm the nervous system and prepare the body and mind for rest.

From the yoga studio to the clinic and beyond, Andrea beautifully embodies what we hoped MĀ could become: a place where different pathways to wellbeing meet and support the whole person.

We’re so grateful to have Andrea as part of the MĀ community ❤️
