Some spaces are made to make you feel welcome.
Some spaces are claimed.
And some spaces, apparently, we’re expected to quietly disappear from.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about who gets to take up room in this world. Who is being told that a space, a voice, a body, or a right somehow belongs to someone else.
And it’s hard not to think about that when some of us are being told, in ways both subtle and frighteningly explicit, that our rights are negotiable. That our bodies are up for debate. That our voices should be quieter. That some of us should know our place.
Maybe that’s why Hornet Hollow feels necessary.
Hornets don’t wait for permission to build a nest.
They build a custom-made community piece by piece.
Until one day you wake up and there’s a whole nest where there wasn’t one before.
Hornet Hollow is still being built. I don't know what it will evolve into, or what monster I've created.
I just know that your world will never get bigger if you're waiting for permission to live fully. You'll always be too much for some and not enough for others. It's those folks in between that need us to get brave right now.
And one curious thing always leads to another.
Building piece by piece. Coming soon.
