Writing this brings mixed emotions, but the time has come to share some important news. After 15 months of serving this community, as of today, January 1, 2026 Ink Bar Beauty will immediately be shutting down it’s cosmetic tattooing and piercing services.

This decision comes as I pursue a new, heartfelt venture at the same location that will take me in a completely different direction. While this new endeavour is very exciting, it means saying goodbye to the two key staff who were by my side almost since day one - namely cosmetic tattoo artist Victoria Hollister and piercer Janine Wittich. Vikki and Janine have always been more than just staff – they quickly became good friends and confidants, sharing in all the day-to-day adventures of a beauty shop.

None of this is a surprise to anyone therefore we were able to complete all cosmetic tattoo and piercing appointments by Dec 31st and are now heading in our own directions as we enter this new year. As for me, I will still be doing hair at our Island Highway shop so if you’re one of my clients, reach out to me directly to book.

Thank you for your trust, your loyalty, and for making Ink Bar so memorable. It was a lot of fun and I am both proud and grateful for the experience.

I ♥️ grey blending! Decided to do this on myself. My grey roots were about an inch long and very, well, flat grey. (I should have taken a closer “before” shot…) Instead of using a permanent colour on my grey roots - which grows out with a harsh line - I brushed on a demi permanent warm dark blonde tint and processed for about 35 minutes before shampooing. This technique tones the gray but the ink does not pe*****te the hair so it’s a softer, iridescent look – somewhere between grey and dark blonde - which is very pretty and forgiving because we all know how quickly those pesky gray roots start to show after a fresh colour.

Additionally, it will slowly fade over several weeks, depending on how often I shampoo. This allows my new grey regrowth to blend seamlessly with no harsh lines.

Bonus: it works in all shades from blonde to darker brown so it’s perfect for every greying client!

I absolutely LOVE children. And while I no longer do their hair (nothing personal - just not enough time in the appointment book…), I really enjoy having them visit.

I got to flex my consultation skills whilst visiting the toddler of one of my favourite clients today and it seems that ‘lil buddy was up for just about anything!

Hey everybody - meet my new favourite client, Professor Adams! Dr Adams is 102 and as sharp as a razor. She was a professor of French Literature at UVic until her retirement some years ago. She gets more visitors at her assisted living facility than most of us could ever hope for and belongs to several book clubs.

Here’s what I’ve learned about Dr Adams thus far:

She reads the Globe & Mail daily.�E-Reader? Get real.
Audiobooks? For quitters.
Her earliest memory is a Remembrance Day event at the age of 5, just 10 years after the end of WWI where she heard her father pay tribute to his brother, Dr Adams uncle, who was killed in the war at the age of 23.

She is a bloody marvel!

Dr Adams kicks it old school - PAPER - both hard and softcover (she’s not a snob…). For those of you who don’t know, I’m a voracious reader so Dr Adams and I are going to swap books. She’s giving me some lofty historical tome on the Middle East (say what???) as soon as she collects it from another friend whereas I am passing on a beautiful novel, Woman Running in the Mountains by Yuko Tsushima for our first reads. Who do you think is going to have the easier time of it? (Hopefully she doesn’t ask me for a report…)

Anyway, Dr Adams and I get to spend 30 lovely minutes together discussing literature every Wednesday while I wash and style her hair. I love every second of it. (Did I happen to mention how much I miss my mom? ♥️)

We gave this woman a beautiful cut and colour last week yet this pesky 3 inch section of hair really held it back from perfection.

My client has always battled the hair growing from a birthmark above her right ear – it’s pure Beetlejuice frizz regardless of how she deals with it.

You don’t have to live with this, people. Give me some of your precious time (an hour and a half in this case) and I will tame that hair with thermal straightening!
