Did you know that suppressing an emotion doesn't make it disappear?

It actually drives it deeper into the body.

Think about these two words for a second: suppression.

depression. They're almost the same word because they're almost the same thing.

When we push feelings down, the grief, the anger, the sadness, the frustration, the shame, we don't release them. We store them. And the body is always listening.

Over the next few posts I'm going to walk through what actually happens in the body when we suppress emotion, and the first steps that helped me, and that I now teach my clients, to let those feelings move through rather than stay stuck.

If you've ever wondered why you can't just "think your way" out of how you feel, this is for you.

Follow along.

We have an update -- and it's a good one.

Forest is for Rest has a new home. We have moved from the Wakefield homestead to a stunning property in Chelsea, QC, just 30 minutes from Ottawa -- and it comes with something we couldn't have dreamed up: a sauna in the forest, right alongside a rushing creek.

Same intimate gathering. Same fire-cooked shared table, nervous system tools, wildcrafting, and slow nourishment. Just wilder, quieter, and more restorative than ever.

Four dates this summer. 6 -- 8 women. $197 CAD early bird.

Come exhale with us.

Most of us weren’t taught curiosity in conflict.
We were taught protection.

Defend. Shut down. Avoid. Prove. React.

But curiosity changes relationships.

Not because it removes conflict;
because it helps us understand what’s underneath it.

The problem usually isn’t just the person.
It’s the pattern.

Only 3 spots remaining. Friday, June 5.

There is no schedule here. No itinerary. No one telling you what you need

Forest is for Rest is built on one simple idea: you know what your body needs. We just create the space for you to listen.

This is a Montessori-style half-day retreat. From 10am to 3pm, you choose your own experience from a world of offerings waiting for you in the forest and on the homestead.
Wander a Forest Bathing meditation trail. Wildcraft herbs and wild berries. Learn Tasseography -- the ancient art of reading tea and coffee. Release what no longer serves you on a Buddha Board. Dance in the trees with tribal jewelry and a doumbek drum. Blend your own essential oils. Brew tea in a multicultural ceremony drawn from a hand-pumped homestead well. Write Haiku in a hammock. Read Tarot. Sing into the forest with a karaoke machine and zero witnesses who care. Learn to build a rocket stove fire, cook over it, and sit down to a tasting lunch made from what the land offers.

And at the end of the day, gather at the waterfall.
It is intimate -- a circle of 6 to 8 women. It is real. And it is almost full.

Optional Add-Ons:

Nervous System Coaching -- a private one-to-one conversation with Lisa Utronki, rooted in neuroscience. Explore your personal patterns, nervous system responses, and what is ready to shift. A quiet, held space just for you.

Hadado Facial Massage -- a deeply relaxing Japanese facial massage technique with Yeshim Gumus that works with the fascia to release held tension, restore circulation, and bring you fully into your body.

More dates are coming through the season. But June 5 has 3 spots left.

Anxiety isn’t always the enemy.
Sometimes it’s information.

Your body is constantly communicating with you…
but most of us were taught to suppress, ignore, or push through what we feel.

Not every anxious feeling means danger.
Sometimes it means you’ve been overwhelmed, overthinking, people pleasing, or disconnected from yourself for too long.

Your emotions are signals.
And awareness is where change begins.

Something we've have been quietly building is finally ready.

Forest is for Rest is a one-day nervous system retreat in nature — just outside Wakefield, Quebec, 35 minutes from Ottawa.

10am to 3pm. A small group of women. No schedule to keep up with. No pressure to perform. Just a grounded, unstructured day where your body finally gets the chance to exhale.

Herbal tea on arrival. Forest meditation. Herb picking over a fire. Hammocks. A nature library. Quiet. Space. Stillness.

Your nervous system was never designed for the pace most of us are living at. This day is designed to remind it what rest actually feels like.

Six to eight women per date. Intentionally intimate.

2026 dates: June 5 · July 24 · August 14 · September 11

Early bird investment: $197 CAD

Most people stop at awareness. And that is exactly why change doesn’t happen.
Knowing you pull away or chase is not enough. The pattern keeps running.
Next time you feel it. Pause.
Ask yourself. What am I protecting right now?
That pull. That chase. That shutdown. It is not a flaw. It is your nervous system doing what it learned to do to keep you safe.
What once protected you is now creating distance from the people you love most.
Awareness is the door. You still have to walk through it.
Do you pull away or do you chase? Tell me below.

Your nervous system has been trying to tell you something.

This quiz identifies your dominant stress response — Fight, Flight, Fawn, Freeze, or Regulated — and your secondary response too. Because most of us are a blend of more than one, and understanding that combination is where the real self-awareness begins.

Answer honestly. Not how you wish you responded. How you actually do.

Once you have your result, scroll down — your personalised regulation pathway is waiting for you there too.

A youth version is coming soon — because our kids deserve to understand their nervous systems too.

Your body has been trying to tell you something. You just haven't known how to listen.

We push through. We override. We think our way around stress — and then wonder why we feel exhausted, snappy, or shut down.

Everyone has a door. A place in the body where stress shows up first. Tight chest. Clenched jaw. Shoulders creeping up around your ears.

Find your door — and you find your way in.

This week, just notice. Where does stress land in your body first? Drop it in the comments.

Most people are strangers to themselves. And it is not their fault.
If you don’t know what you feel, you can’t be authentic.
Who are you when no one is watching?
Rate yourself 1 to 10 in public. Now in private. If there is a gap, pay attention. That gap is where the real work begins.
