Some spring must haves for a sunny landscape! You won't regret planting these.
1. Heather
2. Ornamental Crab Apple (or regular crab apple!)
3. Phlox subulata - If you plant multiple colors, they will continue to pollinate with each other, popping up other places in the garden. Sometimes they create a subtle new color.
4. Spring bulbs! Plant these in the fall for color the next spring. And likewise, plant fall bulbs for extra color in the fall.

Why does this view work artistically? 👉

Second picture shows the harmony of complimentary colors blues & orange/yellows.

Third picture shows the same harmony but with complimentary colors red and green.

There's also a distinctive foreground, middle ground and background. Within this is a mixture of soft vs rough. Soft grass vs rough stem and tree.

Take a minute and try to appreciate the small viewpoints you may daily encounter, see if you can find why your view works.

🌿Garden Tip!

Do you have tropicals to bring in for the winter? If you haven't already, now is the time to prepare them for transition. (Here we are in Zone 5b/6a with moody weather)

• If planted, time to dig up and transfer to a pot. *Additional info on this to come*

• If potted tropicals are in low lying areas on your property, bring to a higher level such as a deck

• Put the potted tropicals (if they've been in full sun) in partial shade - this will help reduce the shock of less light indoors.

• Reduce watering and fertilizing

It's easiest to leave them on the deck or by a place with easy storage access in case there is a last minute frost warning or cold night so you can bring them in without extra frustration.

Live in the area and need help with this transition? Please reach out!

🍂Flowering kale is a beautiful addition to add to your garden in late spring as transplants for a show in the fall.
They are also great in planters!

A time lapse of a design, to install, to growth with Leon MacDonalds Landscaping (902-798-0780) A bright, tropical vibe was desired. Color harmony, texture variation and sight lines was the focus with the addition of some annuals while the perennials continue to grow in. It's been lovely maintaining this garden and watching it grow.

A natural inspired design, requested by the homeowners, with a beautiful view of the Bay of Fundy. Fruit trees surrounded by short wildflowers, clover included, positioned in a meandering but structured pattern for sight lines of the Bay. A future meadow that transitions into mass perennial planting, this look is carried into the back for the design to flow, while also incorporating the pre-existing hot tub and other plant material. Looking forward to the installed design, and the established meadow, by Melissa Noon-Ward Noon-Ward Landscaping and her spin on this.
