One of my favourite analogies for this is the landlord special.
If you've ever seen a landlord just paint over things without sanding or doing any prep at all, that's basically what your skin is without dermaplaning. Whatever paint you put over top of it is going to look clumpy and dusty.
So your foundation stopped sitting right. It could be texture, it could be sun damage, it could be a bit of both plus aging. Most likely the culprit is the sun. UVA ages you, UVB burns you, and both cause irregularities in the skin.
Dermaplaning sloughs off that first layer of skin cells so new skin can push through, and it takes the fine white hairs off your face while it's at it. Which means your products actually absorb, and your makeup sits a lot cleaner.
Prep the wall before you paint it.
