A reader asked if one of my essays was in a book because she wanted to give it as a Christmas gift.

It wasn't.

So I made one.

When I told Sandy that her comment had inspired an entire book, she replied:
"Thank you for telling me! I feel so proud...and I am ordering it for Christmas gifts!"

She absolutely should feel proud.

Her lovely question was the little spark that brought this book into the world.

I gathered my stories about Crow Medicine, changing seasons, good candles, afternoon coffee and finding the sacred in ordinary life - and Go Outside Until the World Starts Talking Again was born.

What Reiki Master Actually Is (…and What It Isn't)

One of the biggest misconceptions about Reiki Master training is that it's simply about learning more symbols or receiving another certificate.

It isn't.

To me, Reiki Master is about deepening your relationship with Reiki.

It's about learning to trust yourself more.

It's about becoming steadier, more grounded, and more confident in the work you're already doing.

Over the years, I've also noticed something interesting.

Many people are drawn to mediumship, the Akashic Records, intuitive development, animal communication, or other spiritual practices. Those gifts often begin to unfold more naturally as people continue working with Reiki.

Why?

Because Reiki helps us develop something incredibly important before any of those gifts expand...

A strong energetic foundation.

As our awareness grows, it's just as important to know how to stay grounded as it is to become more intuitive. Reiki teaches us how to recognize our own energy, maintain healthy energetic boundaries, and stay balanced as our spiritual path continues to unfold.

That's one reason I still believe Reiki is one of the best foundations for anyone exploring deeper spiritual work.

And yes… if you feel called to teach someday, Level 4 includes learning how to confidently share Reiki with future students as well.

One of my favourite parts of teaching Reiki Master is watching practitioners realize they're more capable than they thought they were.

They stop second-guessing themselves.

They begin trusting what they already know.

Yesterday, I met someone with an extraordinary gift.

She has an incredible ability to communicate with animals.

Her intuition is beautiful.

She naturally senses things that many people spend years trying to develop.

As we talked, something surprised me.

She had never learned Reiki.

It reminded me of something I've seen again and again over the years.

Many gifted people learn how to help everyone else before they ever learn how to care for themselves.

They develop intuition.

They become healers.

They hold space.

They absorb emotions.

They carry the weight of the world...
..but no one teaches them how to manage their own energy.

That's one of the reasons I still believe so deeply in Reiki.

To me, Reiki isn't simply a healing modality.

It's an energy management system.

It teaches us how to stay grounded while helping others.

How to recognize what belongs to us and what doesn't.

How to reconnect with our own soul, our Higher Self, and our own well-being.

The Biggest Mistake I Made as a Healer

When I first began my healing journey, I thought the goal was to help everyone else.

To be available.

To give more.

To hold space.

To fix.

To carry.

I thought that was what made someone a good healer.

It wasn't.

Over time, I discovered something important.

If you don't know how to care for your own energy, your gifts eventually become exhausting.

You begin carrying other people's emotions.

You lose your own centre.

You wonder why you're so tired when all you wanted to do was help.

Learning Reiki changed that for me.

It wasn't just another healing modality.

It became my energy management system.

It taught me how to stay grounded while helping others, how to recognize what belonged to me and what didn't, and how to reconnect with myself instead of constantly giving pieces of myself away.

After all these years, that's still one of the greatest gifts Reiki has given me.
