Message from Coordinator

This gathering will bring together our youth and elders in a welcoming and culturally safe space to learn from one another, share stories, and take part in meaningful discussions on the preservation of the Anisininew language.

Through this time together, we hope to strengthen connections across generations, honour our elders’ knowledge, and support our youth as they carry forward our language, teachings, values, and traditions.

We need to hear from everyone, especially those residing in Winnipeg. We encourage families to attend, especially youth and elders living in Winnipeg. Your voices, experiences, and presence are important as we walk this path together.

After many years of advocating, today an official announcement was made that Island Lake has been awarded funding for Broadband connectivity. High Speed Fibre Internet is coming to the region.

This is an important step forward for our communities, our youth, education, healthcare, businesses, and staying connected with family and the world around us. In the near future, the project management team will begin community consultations as this work moves ahead.

Proud to see Marie and Rachel, both staff from Four Arrows, participate today as voices and visibility for our younger generation. Their presence represented hope, leadership, and the future of our communities.

On behalf of Four Arrows Regional Health Authority, we are honoured to recognize International Nurses Week and extend our deepest gratitude to all nurses for their dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to care.

To the nurses serving in our Island Lake communities and beyond, thank you for the long hours, the gentle words, the advocacy, and the strength you bring to our people every day. You are the heart of our health system and play a vital role in supporting the wellness of our families, youth, and Elders.

This week is especially meaningful as we witnessed yesterday the historic proclamation that May 13 is officially Indigenous Nurses Day in the province of Manitoba. We proudly acknowledge and celebrate Indigenous nurses, whose knowledge, leadership, and cultural teachings are essential to improving health outcomes and strengthening our systems of care.

To all nurses, and especially Indigenous nurses across Manitoba and Canada, thank you. Your work, your courage, and your compassion make a lasting difference in our communities.
