CNNN gets calls and emails about issues that fall outside our mandate and we want to make sure nurses know where to turn.
CNNN is a regulatory college. Our role is public protection, we set standards, register nurses and investigate concerns about patient safety and professional conduct.

We're not the right call for:
β€” Workplace disputes or unsafe working conditions
β€” Wages, scheduling or employment rights
β€” Professional advocacy or representation
β€” Mental health and peer support resources

For workplace and advocacy issues, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Nurses (NTNAN) is the organization built for nurses in the North. Knowing who does what means you get the right help, faster.

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and MΓ©tis peoples across Canada.

For CNNN, this month is also a moment to reflect on what reconciliation means within a regulatory mandate.

This year, CNNN established the Indigenous Nurses Advisory Council, a standing council created under the Nursing Professions Act to bring First Nations, Inuit, and MΓ©tis perspectives directly into nursing regulation across the NWT and Nunavut. That work is ongoing.

The Council is listening and if you have perspectives to share on what the Council should prioritize, we want to hear them.

CNNN is pleased to welcome two new members to the team.

Jay Matheson joins as General Counsel, providing strategic oversight of the College's legal operations and advising the Board and Executive on legal matters. Jay brings over a decade of experience delivering legal guidance to stakeholders across the public and private sectors.

Stephanie Heins joins as Communications Manager, bringing more than a decade of senior strategic advisory experience in regulatory communications. Stephanie has worked closely over the last five years with CNNN to strengthen its communications, digital presence, and public-facing resources β€” and we're glad to have her expertise as part of the team in an official capacity.

Welcome, Jay and Stephanie. 🧑

What does a nursing regulator actually do? CNNN's role is to:
β€” Set the standards nurses must meet
β€” Register and license nurses to practice in the NWT and Nunavut
β€” Investigate concerns about nurse conduct when public safety is at risk. CNNN doesn't advocate for nurses in the NWT and NU. That's NTNAN's work. CNNN protects the public.

That's the job. πŸ”— cannn.ca

Did you know there's a specific class of nursing registration in the NWT and Nunavut for nurses who practice entirely through virtual care?

CANNN's Active Registration, Virtual Care class is for nurses who provide remote nursing services to patients in the Northwest Territories or Nunavut without practicing on-site.

If you're a nurse providing virtual care to patients in the North, you need to be registered with CANNN. Your province or territory of primary practice doesn't cover it.
