How to Help Pediatricians & Therapists in Structuring Child Care / Therapy Programs
1. Clear Assessment & Documentation
Use standardized screening tools (speech, behavior, OT, autism scales).
Keep clear records: diagnosis, strengths, weaknesses, goals.
Share reports between pediatrician, SLP, OT, psychologist, and teachers.
➡️ This helps everyone work in the same direction.
2. Multidisciplinary Team Approach
Pediatrician: medical & developmental overview
Speech Therapist: communication & language
OT: sensory, fine motor, daily living skills
Behavior Therapist: behavior & social skills
Special Educator: learning & classroom strategies
➡️ Regular team meetings improve structure and consistency.
3. Structured Therapy Plans (IEP / ISP)
Set SMART goals:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Time-based
Break goals into short-term steps
Review progress every 3–6 months
4. Parent Training & Involvement
Teach parents:
Home activities
Behavior management techniques
Communication strategies
Give simple home programs, not complex ones
➡️ Therapy works best when continued at home.
5. Routine-Based Intervention
Use child’s daily routine (play, meals, dressing) for therapy
Visual schedules, charts, and timetables help children understand structure
Consistency reduces behavior issues
6. Use of Visual & Sensory Supports
Picture cards (PECS)
Visual timetables
Sensory breaks
Calm corners
➡️ Especially helpful for autism and speech delay.
7. Regular Monitoring & Feedback
Track progress weekly
Modify strategies if child is not improving
Share feedback with parents and doctors
8. School & Clinic Coordination
Align therapy goals with school learning
Teachers should know therapy targets
Same strategies used in clinic + school + home

🌈 Autism Meltdown Triggers

A meltdown happens when a person with autism becomes overwhelmed — not because they’re being “naughty” or “angry,” but because their brain is overloaded. The triggers are the things that cause that overload.

Here are some common meltdown triggers 👇

1. Sensory Overload

Too much noise, bright lights, crowds, or strong smells.

Example: loud music or buzzing lights in a shopping mall.

2. Sudden Change in Routine

Unexpected events or schedule changes can cause anxiety.

Example: the school bus is late, or a favorite teacher is absent.

3. Communication Difficulties

Trouble expressing feelings or needs can build frustration.

Example: not being understood or being told to “use words” when upset.

4. Social Overload

Too many people, too much talking, or pressure to socialize.

Example: group activities or birthday parties.

5. Physical Discomfort

Hunger, tiredness, pain, or being too hot/cold.

Example: wearing itchy clothes or skipping a meal.

6. Emotional Triggers

Feeling ignored, criticized, or misunderstood.

Example: someone saying “stop acting like that” instead of offering help.

7. Transitions

Moving from one activity to another without warning.

Example: being told to stop playing suddenly for bath time.
