Classic Lasagna Recipe
Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce:
• 500 g (1 lb) ground beef (or a mix of beef & pork)
• 1 onion, finely chopped
• 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
• 400 g (14 oz) canned crushed tomatoes
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
• 1 tsp dried oregano
• 1 tsp dried basil
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• Salt & pepper, to taste
For the Béchamel Sauce:
• 4 tbsp butter
• 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
• 1 liter (4 cups) milk, warm
• Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
• Salt & pepper, to taste
Other:
• 9–12 lasagna sheets (no-boil or cooked, depending on package)
• 200 g (2 cups) shredded mozzarella cheese
• 50 g (½ cup) grated parmesan cheese

Instructions
1. Prepare the Meat Sauce:
• Heat olive oil in a pan. Add onions and garlic, sauté until soft.
• Add ground meat, cook until browned.
• Stir in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, herbs, sugar, salt, and pepper.
• Simmer uncovered on low heat for 20–30 minutes until thickened.
2. Make the Béchamel Sauce:
• Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour, cook for 1 minute.
• Gradually whisk in warm milk until smooth.
• Simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring, until thick and creamy.
• Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
3. Assemble the Lasagna:
• Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
• In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce.
• Place lasagna sheets on top.
• Add a layer of meat sauce, a layer of béchamel, then sprinkle some mozzarella.
• Repeat layers until all ingredients are used (about 3–4 layers).
• Finish with béchamel sauce on top, sprinkle generously with mozzarella and parmesan.
4. Bake:
• Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
• Remove foil and bake another 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
• Let rest 10–15 minutes before slicing (so it holds together).
