From The Nurse's Orders
Mfethu, ugrend?" 🤔💬

It’s the question we ask each other every day, and usually, the automatic answer is "Yeah, ngigrand." But let’s keep it real for a second. Are you actually okay?

Society tells men to be rocks, unshaken, silent, and always strong. But carrying everything on your own isn't strength; it's exhausting.

Take a moment today to honestly reflect on your emotions. It is 100% okay to not be okay. In fact, admitting “I’m not fine” isn't a sign of weakness it’s the ultimate act of bravery. You can't fix a problem you refuse to acknowledge, and accepting that you need a hand is the very first step toward healing.

Let's break the silence. Check in on your brothers, and more importantly, be honest with yourself.
Drop a 🤝 if you're committing to checking in on a mate today, or reach out if you need an ear. You don't have to walk this path alone.

The Nurse's Orders joins the world in celebrating and commemorating nurses world wide.💜❤️.
Nursing is more than just a profession, more than just another day another task, its selfless services, its showing up and making sure patients feel seen, heard, and cared for during their most vulnerable moments.

It is the quiet strength in the middle of a double shift, the steady hand when stakes are high, and the compassionate heart that bridges the gap between clinical science and human connection. To be a nurse is to be a guardian of dignity, an advocate for the voiceless, and a beacon of hope in the sterile halls of uncertainty.

Why We Celebrate Today
❤️The Advocates: For those who speak up when a patient can’t.

❤️The Healers
For the experts who balance complex medicine with a gentle touch.

❤️The Lifelines: For the professionals who are the backbone of every healthcare system.

Today, we honor the sleepless nights, the emotional weight, and the unwavering dedication. To every nurse: your work doesn't just save lives—it changes them.
Happy International Nurses Day! 🩺✨

🌸 Happy International Day of the Midwife! 🌸

Today The Nurse's Orders joins hands with the world in celebrating midwives all over the world. 🙌

This year's theme, , is a powerful global call to action because the world still needs one million more of these extraordinary caregivers. And when you meet a midwife, you understand why they matter so deeply.

From the moment a family begins to dream of a child, the midwives are already there. Before conception, they guide and educate. Through every prenatal visit, they listens, watche, and protect. In the labour room, they hold the mother's hand, encourage her spirit, and guard both lives with everything they have. And after the baby takes that first breath, they are still there nurturing, teaching, and walking alongside the family as they find their footing.

A midwives do not just deliver babies. They deliver hope, courage, safety, and love. They are the steady, skilled, compassionate extension of God's own hand reaching into the most sacred moment of human life and saying, "We are here. You are not alone."

To every midwife reading this THANK YOU.
The world needs one million more of YOU. 💙

From The Nurse's Orders: Your #1 Health Plug on the socials 💜

Today we are talking about something that can happen to anyone, at any age, "a stroke". Knowing the signs could save a life. Knowing how to eat could help you never face one at all. Let's get into it. 🧠❤️

🚨 What is a stroke?

A stroke occurs when blood supply to part of the brain is cut off — either by a blocked artery (ischaemic stroke) or a burst blood vessel (haemorrhagic stroke). Every minute without blood flow, brain cells begin to die. This is why acting fast is everything.

⚡ Recognise the signs — use B.E. F.A.S.T.

🔴 B — Balance loss
Sudden dizziness, loss of balance or coordination, trouble walking

🔴 E — Eye changes
Sudden blurred or double vision, or loss of vision in one or both eyes

🔴 F — Face drooping
One side of the face droops or feels numb. Ask the person to smile. Is it uneven?

🔴 A — Arm weakness
One arm is weak or numb. Ask them to raise both arms. Does one drift downward?

🔴 S — Speech difficulty
Slurred, strange, or inability to speak. Ask them to repeat a simple phrase.

🔴 T — Time to call for help (977)
If you notice any of the above signs, call emergency services immediately. Do not wait to see if symptoms improve. Time lost is brain lost. 🕐

🥦 Prevention — what you eat matters more than you think

Up to 80% of strokes are preventable. Diet is one of the most powerful tools we have. Here is what the research consistently points to:

Load up on these 👇

🫐 Fruits and vegetables — aim for at least 5 portions a day. Berries, leafy greens, citrus, and tomatoes are particularly protective due to their antioxidants and potassium content.

🐟 Fatty fish — salmon, sardines, mackerel, eaten at least twice a week. The omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and blood clot risk.

🫘 Whole grains and legumes — oats, brown rice, lentils, and beans help manage blood pressure and blood sugar, both major stroke risk factors.

🥜 Nuts and seeds — a small handful of walnuts, flaxseeds, or chia seeds daily supports heart and vascular health.

🫒 Olive oil — use it as your primary cooking fat. It is rich in monounsaturated fats that support healthy cholesterol

Cut back on these ✋

🧂 Salt (sodium) — excess sodium raises blood pressure, the leading risk factor for stroke. Aim for less than 5g per day. Watch processed foods, tinned goods, and fast food.

🍭 Added sugars and refined carbohydrates — these spike blood sugar and contribute to obesity and type 2 diabetes, both of which significantly increase stroke risk.

🥩 Processed and red meats — limit bacon, sausages, and deli meats. They are high in saturated fat and sodium, both harmful to blood vessels.

🥤 Sugary drinks and alcohol — regular consumption raises blood pressure and contributes to weight gain. Swap for water, herbal teas, or fresh fruit-infused water.

A few extra tips 💡

💧 Stay well hydrated throughout the day — dehydration thickens the blood and can increase clotting risk.

🚶 Pair your diet with at least 30 minutes of moderate movement most days — walking counts.

🩺 Know your numbers — blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol. These are your early warning system. Get them checked regularly.
